Opener: I will explain to the students that we will be going to the computer lab for an activity. Next, I will brake up the class in groups of two.

Procedure: 1. I will explain to the students that they will have to research an invention
that was created during the industrial age.

                    2. Next, I will explain that they will research their invention on the Internet.

                    3. I will distribute a handout that tells the student to identify the invention,
the creator, the short term effects, and the long term effects.

                    4. On the back of the handout is a list of useful websites that the students can
use in researching the inventions and a list of keywords they can use in
                    researching on a search engine.

                   5. Next, I will tell the students that tomorrow they will have to present to the
class the reasons why they think their invention contributed the most to
                   modern day society.

                   6. The sixteen teams will face each other in a tournament where they have to
prove that their invention is more useful than their opponent.

                   7. The class will vote on the inventions and the winner will receive 5 extra
                   credit points.

                   8. The worksheet is worth 10 points.

Closure: I will tell the students that each and every invention contributed to modern day society but it is just an opinion what they feel is the most important.
