MITTEN
creates a networked learning community dedicated to preparing
a cadre of future teachers with improved knowledge, skills,
and confidence integrating information technology
into the teaching and learning process in meaningful
ways.
The project will redesign computing, methods,
and content courses, field experiences, and student
teaching to ensure that students meet National
Educational Technology Standards (NETS) throughout
their programs; and will form a self-sustaining
development network among future teachers, faculty,
and P-12 educators.
MITTEN establishes networked
learning circles NLC-comprised of student teachers,
P-12 teachers, supervisors, technology specialists,
and faculty-that focused on: a) early childhood,
b) language arts, c) mathematics, d) science, and
e) social studies.
The
project partners include UM-D's School
of Education and College of Arts, Sciences, and
Letters, Henry Ford Community College, Dearborn
Schools, Livonia Public Schools, Westwood Community
School District, West Bloomfield School District,
Redford Union Schools, Jefferson Schools, and RWD
Technologies.
MITTEN
is funded through US Department of Education's
Preparing
Tomorrow's Teachers to use Technology (PT3)

program improvements to prepare technology-proficient
educators for 21st century schools.
Through this initiative, MITTEN project will receive
$919,453 from U.S. Department of Education, which
is 49% of the total cost of the project. Fifty-one
percent ($956,995) of the total cost of the project
will financed by nonfederal sources. These
