27th Annual METRO DETROIT YOUTH DAY

Wednesday, July 8, 2009
8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Belle Isle-Athletic Field
Detroit, Michigan

What is Metro Detroit Youth Day?
Metro Detroit Youth Day (MDYD) was developed in 1982 as an effort to build better relationships between the community and local businesses in the private sector. Since then, it has been expanded to include youth guidance, mentors, role models, anti-substance abuse activity, motivational speakers, entertainment, award of 30 or more scholarships, and honoring outstanding students for academic excellence and community service.

How is the University of Michigan-Dearborn involved?
The University of Michigan-Dearborn is a proud sponsor and supporter of MDYD. This year, UM-Dearborn will join once again more than 200 community organizations, over 900 volunteers, and dozens of corporate sponsors in supporting Metro Detroit Youth Day's 27 years of commitment to Metro Detroit youth and helping maintain peace and tranquility in our community.

What can I do?
UM-Dearborn staff, students and alumni have a chance to come together to bring a day of fun and excitement to over 30,000 kids at Metro Detroit Youth Day XXVII. Volunteers are needed for:

  • The UM-Dearborn tent, where we will paint faces, hand out giveaways and interact with the youth.
  • In addition, MDYD organizers are looking for volunteers for day-of-event activities like assisting with breakfast and lunch, games and contests, cleanup and supervisory duties.

Lunch and water will be provided to all volunteers. Transportation will be provided for up to 25 UM-Dearborn volunteers. Volunteers are responsible for bringing their own refreshments and snacks.
