English Language Proficiency Program

The mission of the University of Michigan-Dearborn’s English Language Proficiency Program (ELPP) is to provide quality educational training in the English language and an orientation to the United States culture for non-native speakers. This program provides prospective students with intensive academic English language support with the goal of admittance into a degree program at the University of Michigan–Dearborn. In addition, the English as a Second Language (ESL) courses may be taken by current students for personal or professional enrichment.

The ELPP offers small classroom learning and provides an awareness of American culture and the diversity found within the surrounding community through an array of internal and external programs. This intensive program consists of 15 class hours per week of beginning-level through advanced-level instruction. Courses are taught by TESOL trained instructors who have experience teaching and living abroad. Beginning and intermediate classes teach communicative skills and integrate listening, speaking and pronunciation, reading, writing and grammar.  Advanced classes continue to reinforce basic skills while emphasizing academic skills.
