In November 2000, the Partners Plus program was given a major award, which give creditability to their program efforts with college students. The Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers' (MACRAO) Equal Education Opportunity Committee named Partners Plus their "2000 Award Winning Program". Their association's EEOC's mission is to encourage and promote equal educational opportunities involving ethnic minorities, women and the educationally disadvantaged through planned programs in guidance with MACRAO.

UM-Dearborn/HFCC'S PARTNERS PLUS PROGRAM RECEIVEDS EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP EXCELLENCE AWARD

The University of Michigan-Dearborn and Henry Ford Community College's Partners Plus Program received first place honors from the Detroit Regional Chamber/Detroit Compact's Business Education Partnership Excellence Award. The award is given for outstanding commitment and investment in the educational process of youth.

"Our mission is to empower the economy of southeastern Michigan by developing an educated workforce and recognizing business education partnerships," stated Marian Thomas, director of business/education partnerships for the Detroit regional chapter.

UM-D/HFCC's Partners Plus Program was honored for having the best educational partnership with middle school students from the Westwood School District. The program allows HFCC Partners Plus students the opportunity to work with entire classrooms as tutors, assisting teachers with lesson plans and test preparation. "I definitely have come to rely on this additional help, especially with reading," stated one Tomlinson Elementary teacher.

The major sponsors of Partners Plus are the King-Chavez-Parks' Michigan College/University Partnership Program, Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth, the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and Henry Ford Community College.
