Two-day teacher workshop on utilizing technology is part of the Teacher Academy in the School of Education at UM-Dearborn.

DEARBORN / July 17, 2006---Teachers can learn how to utilize technology in their classrooms during a two-day workshop at the University of Michigan-Dearbornís School of Education on Wednesday, Aug. 23 and Thursday, Aug. 24.

Stein Brunvand, assistant professor of educational technology at UM-Dearborn, will present "Creating an Online Presence: Harnessing the Power of the Internet in Your Classroom" as part of the Teacher Academy workshop series at UM-Dearborn's School of Education.

A new initiative at the School of Education, the Teacher Academy is designed to better meet the needs of the citizens of Southeast Michigan by providing information and/or training on a variety of topics.

Brunvand's workshop, which will take place at UM-Dearborn's Fairlane Center, located off of Hubbard Drive, is geared toward students, teachers, technology coordinators and media specialists.

Brunvand will discuss topics such as how to design and maintain a class Web site; create and use WebQuests to facilitate inquiry; produce podcasts; and establish and maintain a blog to promote literacy. Participants will have the opportunity to create their own class homepages, WebQuests, podcasts and blogs using free software and online resources.

On campus, Brunvand teaches courses to future teachers to help them integrate technology into their instruction. In addition, he has facilitated professional development workshops throughout the state on various topics, including WebQuests, digital video and technology integration.

The deadline to register for the workshop is August 7. Workshop cost is $125 for the general public and $75 for UM-Dearborn alumni and students. A boxed lunch is available for an additional $5 per day.

After August 7, the cost of the workshop is $150 for the public and $90 for UM-Dearborn students and alumni.
