June 24, 2008

DEARBORN / June 24, 2008---The Henry Ford Estate will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Model T with two special events this summer: a special commemorative tour program and art exhibition.

“In honor of the Model T’s centennial year, we wanted to offer our visitors a commemorative tour of Henry Ford’s six-level powerhouse and 3,000-square-foot garage,” according to Gary Rodgers, general manager of the Estate. “Visitors will be able to view Henry Ford’s vehicles and get an in-depth look at our 1916 running Model T, the car that made Fair Lane possible.”

The special anniversary tour, called “Lunch and ‘T’ at the Henry Ford Estate,” will be offered this summer from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the following dates: July 5, July 26 and Aug. 30. The program will include a guided tour, a Model T demonstration and a box lunch served in the Tea House in the Estate’s rose garden. Participants are encouraged to bring their cameras for a photo opportunity in a Model T.

The cost of “Lunch and ‘T’ at the Henry Ford Estate” is $25 per person and reservations are required. To make a reservation, or for more information, call 313-593-5590.

Also at the Estate, now through Oct. 4, the Artists’ Society of Dearborn is hosting “Art of the Model T” each Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Henry Ford Estate.

The commemorative art exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will feature paintings and prints inspired by the 100th anniversary of the Model T. The program is a cooperative effort between the Henry Ford Estate and Artists' Society of Dearborn.

The Henry Ford Estate, a National Historic Landmark located on the University of Michigan–Dearborn campus, was home to automotive pioneer Henry Ford and his wife, Clara, for more than 30 years.
