DEARBORN / Feb. 9, 2009---The University of Michigan-Dearborn is committed to the success of its students and helping them manage the costs of college.

That’s why the university is launching “Financial Aid Friday” events beginning this month, where admitted students and their families can schedule a 30-minute one-on-one appointment with a financial aid counselor.

“In this environment, we are really working to get the word out to students and their families that college is affordable,” according to Stanley E. Henderson, vice chancellor for enrollment management and student life at UM-Dearborn.

“Many families are unfamiliar with the resources that are available, and we understand how challenging it is to navigate the system, which is why we are offering more help and more advice,” Henderson said. “Now more than ever, a college education is the key to prosperity, and we want to help our students and their parents achieve their goals.”

During the personalized meeting, students and their families will learn about the overall financial aid process, including a review of payments options and financial aid offers and information on private scholarships.

Students also should file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2009-2010 academic year by Feb. 14 at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
