School of Management to offer seminars that promote financial and economic literacy April 20-26

DEARBORN / March 28, 2008---The School of Management at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is gearing up to participate in “Money Smart Week,” a series of seminars devoted to combat financial illiteracy and provide greater education to consumers in southeastern Michigan.

Detroit's fifth annual Money Smart Week will take place April 20-26 and six of the sessions, which are free and open to the public, will be held at UM-Dearborn.

UM-Dearborn is one of more than 100 organizations partnering with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago—Detroit Branch to promote financial and economic literacy. More than 300 events are planned statewide.

On Monday, April 21, UM-Dearborn will host two concurrent sessions--“Identity Theft: Don’t Be a Victim” and “Career Exploration to Complement Personal Financial Management”--from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside Kochoff Hall at the campus’s University Center.

On Tuesday, April 22, the campus will host “Credit: How to Get It! How to Keep It!” from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 1045 of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters Building. This session is co-sponsored by the University of Michigan Credit Union.

On Wednesday, April 23, UM-Dearborn will offer a session called “Medicare, Medicaid and Long-term Care” from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Kochoff Hall C of the University Center. This session is co-sponsored by Mall, Mailsow and Cooney, P.C.

A second session, titled “Financial Planning for Consumers Today,” will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 23 in Kochoff Hall B.

On Friday, April 25, another session of “Financial Planning for Consumers Today,” will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Kochoff Hall B.
