DEARBORN / Sept. 11, 2007---The University of Michigan-Dearborn will participate in the fifth annual “Promoting the Publics” from 7:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 in East Lansing.
“Promoting the Publics” is an event for high school counselors and career center coordinators to learn more about the 15 public state universities. The event, which is sponsored by the Directors of Admissions at State Universities in Michigan, will take place at Michigan State University’s Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center.
“This event is like a college fair for school counselors to educate and update themselves to take information back to the students they serve. It’s an incredible resource for them,” according to Christopher Tremblay, director of admissions and orientation at UM-Dearborn.
UM-Dearborn staff members will provide information about academic programs, scholarships and admissions during the event. In addition, staff members will make two presentations about the campus, highlighting what’s new at UM-Dearborn and opportunities for prospective students.
This year’s event will include an abbreviated new high school counselor workshop, as well as a publication titled “What’s New @ Public U,” a guide describing all of the new efforts and initiatives at the state’s 15 public universities. The guide, compiled and edited by Tremblay, will be distributed to all of the event’s attendees.
The event is free. High school counselors and career center coordinators are encouraged to RSVP online at www.admissions.msu.edu/publics.asp.
