Play to raise awareness of violence against women

 

UM-Dearborn will host performances of Eve Ensler's 'The Vagina Monologues' Feb. 14 and Feb. 17, with proceeds benefiting Vista Maria.

DEARBORN / Jan. 31, 2008---The University of Michigan-Dearborn will host two presentations of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues next month as part of the campus’s 2008 V-Day campaign, which aims to raise an awareness of violence against women.

The performances will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 14 and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 17 in Room 1011 of UM-Dearborn’s Institute for Advanced Vehicle Systems Building.

Admission is $5 for each performance. Proceeds will benefit Vista Maria, Michigan’s largest non-profit residential and community-based treatment agency for abused and neglected girls.

V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of playwright and founder Eve Ensler’s award-winning play The Vagina Monologues. This year marks its 10-year anniversary and with it, V-Day has introduced two new events, V-Day’s "A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer: Writings on Violence Against Women and Girls," and the V-Day documentary Until The Violence Stops. The 'V' in V-Day stands for victory, valentine and vagina.

The UM-Dearborn performances are sponsored by UM-Dearborn’s Women’s Resource Center, Student Activities Office and various student organizations.

Event parking will be available across from the Institute for Advanced Vehicle Systems building and in the UM-Dearborn parking structure, located on the campus’s Monteith Blvd. (See campus map.)
