Dearborn resident Maureen Cotter receives award from UM-Dearborn's Alumni Society

DEARBORN / July 20, 2007---Maureen Cotter, owner of Maureen Cotter & Associates Inc. in Dearborn, received the Professional Growth and Scholarship Award from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in a ceremony this spring.
Cotter’s consulting firm works with companies to identify ways to control costs by improving the health of employees.
Cotter graduated from UM-Dearborn in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. After graduation, she joined Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan as an underwriter and worked with employers to estimate the cost of their health care benefits, establish insurance and funding arrangements and identify opportunities for cost containment. While at BCBSM, Cotter learned about actuarial science and began pursuing actuarial exams. Cotter joined the Detroit office of Mercer Consulting. Later, she became an associate of the Society of Actuaries. In 1995, Cotter joined Watson Wyatt, and was named Watson Wyatt’s global practice director for group and health care consulting in 2002. She now serves on Watson Wyatt’s board of directors.
Cotter is a resident of Dearborn.
