UM-Dearborn event aims to help students manage the costs of college

DEARBORN / March 30, 2010---The University of Michigan-Dearborn is committed to the success of its students and helping them manage the costs of college.
That’s why the university is hosting “Financial Aid Friday” events now through April 30, where admitted students and their families can schedule a 30-minute one-on-one appointment with a financial aid counselor.
“In this economic environment, we are doing everything we can to let students and their families know that college still is affordable,” according to Stanley E. Henderson, vice chancellor for enrollment management and student life at UM-Dearborn.
“Many families are unfamiliar with the resources that are available, and we understand how challenging it is to navigate the system, which is why we are offering more help and more advice,” Henderson said. “Now more than ever, a college education is the key to prosperity, and we want to help our students and their parents achieve their goals.”
During the personalized meeting, students and their families will review their financial aid award and learn about the overall financial aid process, including a review of payments options and information on private scholarships.
Students must file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2010-2011 academic year before an appointment can be made. The FAFSA is completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
