DEARBORN / Feb. 25, 2010---More than 40,000 alumni and faculty members are invited back to the University of Michigan-Dearborn to celebrate the campus’s 50th anniversary during a special Alumni Day event on Thursday, April 8.
Alumni Day, which will be hosted by the Office of Alumni Relations with support by the Student Activities Office, will allow the campus’s alumni a chance to reconnect with former friends, faculty, staff and current students at UM-Dearborn.
"A campus-wide Alumni Day is a perfect opportunity to expand upon our efforts to build a strong relationship with our alumni,” said Farhan Latif, director of alumni engagement at UM-Dearborn. “While our faculty, staff and students are focused on the campus today and the future here at UM-Dearborn, I believe it is important to share the campus's rich history and to celebrate how far we have come in the last 50 years.”
The Alumni Day event will start at 4 p.m. with an optional campus tour, followed by a reception, program and dinner. The cost of the event is $25 per person for alumni and guests.
Student organizations involved in Alumni Day will include WUMD, Lyceum, Campus Video, Greek letter organizations, Amnesty International, various religious and ethnic groups, and the Michigan Journal. Campus programs like Blueprints, the Honors Program and other notable groups also are invited to attend. In all, more than 45 organizations and programs will be represented during the event.
"Our alumni are successful professionals whose contributions have a local, regional and national impact on their communities,” said Tom Baird, vice chancellor for institutional advancement. “Their experience, both as professionals and as former students at UM-Dearborn, is invaluable to our current students. I hope that all of the alumni who attend the event will have a great time seeing old friends, while at the same time, getting to know our campus all over again."
In addition to fostering relations between alumni and current students, Alumni Day will encourage alumni, current students and staff members to reminisce, reconnect and energize our future.
"Throughout the process of planning Alumni Day, I have met a lot of incredible alumni,” said Jason Davis, an intern in the Office of Alumni Relations. "They are proud of this university and the legacy it has created. Meeting these individuals makes me even more proud to be a UM-Dearborn student. As an alumnus and current graduate student in the campus’s Master in Public Administration program, I am honored to be involved in the project and excited for my fellow students to meet all the remarkable alumni that will be attending event."
