Gary Wagerson, founder of Wagerson & Associates and Global Trade Development, received the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award from the College of Business (formerly School of Management) at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in a ceremony this spring.

DEARBORN / July 24, 2009---Gary Wagerson, founder of Wagerson & Associates and Global Trade Development, received the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award from the College of Business (formerly School of Management) at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in a ceremony this spring.                         

After graduating with a bachelorís degree in marketing in 1963, Wagerson joined PPG Industries, which led to sales jobs in Detroit, North Carolina and Pittsburgh, where ultimately he was named manager of new Products in the fiberglass division.  Following a stint as marketing director for a joint venture between PPG Industries and Union Carbide, Wagerson founded his own sales agency, Wagerson & Associates, Intl., in 1970 for overseas companies wishing to do business in the U.S.  When two of his sons joined him, the business expanded to further international opportunities in India and Mexico, and more recently in Brazil.         

In addition, Wagerson founded a second company, Global Trade Development, as well as two charities: the First Words Society which supports families of children with speech problems who are not covered by insurance and Beyond Basics which supports literacy work in inner-city schools.  Wagerson also is a trustee at William Beaumont Hospital, former director of the Detroit Golf Club, The Old Club, and has been a member of the Detroit Athletic Club for more than 30 years.   

Wagerson is a resident of Bloomfield Hills.
