New endowed scholarship aids business students studying information technology management at UM-Dearborn
November 23, 2009
DEARBORN / Nov. 23, 2009---An endowed scholarship fund has been established for University of Michigan-Dearborn students who are studying information technology management (ITM) in the College of Business.
The fund, which was set up by anonymous donors who work in the ITM field, aims to recognize academic merit, encourage continued progress and provide assistance to students in financing their education.
“The donors ended up working in this field without having undergraduate degrees in information technology/information systems, but their careers kept leading them along this path,” said Michael Stein, director of development for the College of Business. “They see the value, strength and versatility that a degree in ITM holds and thus want to encourage students in this direction. As they have seen from their first-hand experiences, the field could benefit from those that in the past may have traditionally bumped into a glass ceiling.”
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be enrolled full-time at UM-Dearborn and be pursuing an information technology management degree. Students also should have completed ITM 310 and received at least a “B” in the course.
Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of scholastic achievement and qualities of leadership, with preference to those who might not have opportunities in these fields because of a “glass ceiling.”
Each year, awards will be made of at least $1,000 or more per student, depending on the number of qualified applicants and the amount in the fund as determined by the COB scholarship committee. Recipients will be chosen by a scholarship committee in accordance with the general policies and practices in effect for scholarships at the University.
