UM-Dearborn to recognize Campus Sustainability Day with roster of activities on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

DEARBORN / Oct. 17, 2008---Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to “Live Green, Go Blue” on Wednesday, Oct. 22 as part of the second annual Campus Sustainability Day festivities at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Campus Sustainability Day is a nationwide event aimed at drawing attention and giving support to sustainability activities on college campuses. All events at UM-Dearborn will take place at Kochoff Hall inside the University Center.

Some of the highlights of the day will include the opportunity for faculty, staff and students to stop by between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to pick up maps, pamphlets and additional information about recycling and other methods for reducing waste on and off campus.

From 11 a.m. to noon, students can attend “Sustainable Connections,” an event geared toward meeting one-on-one with industry leaders to discuss "green" careers, and what students need to do to get there.

The program will include a panel discussion on “The Sustainable Triple Bottom Line: How Business, Development and Innovation Will Impact our Future” and an interactive webcast featuring leaders in the sustainability movement.

From noon to 1 p.m., representatives from DTE Energy and the UG Green Building Council will discuss “Alternative Energy and the Mass Market” and “Developing Our Future.”

From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., the Society for College and University Planning webcast will be streamed into the University Center. The webcast titled, “Climate Realities: Challenges and Progress in Higher Education” is an opportunity to participate in a discussion with leaders of the World Wildlife Fund, Second Nature and the Energy Action Coalition.

From 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., faculty, staff and students can attend “Our Sustainable Campus,” an exhibit that explores some of the initiatives and research on sustainable topics at UM-Dearborn.

From 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., carpoolers can gather for an ice cream social to learn more about the university's GreenRide program and meet other potential carpoolers in their area.
