November 24, 2010

DEARBORN / Nov. 23, 2010 - The University of Michigan-Dearborn is offering local high school and community college students a crash course in financial aid at its financial aid workshop on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m.Ė12:30 p.m.

The workshop, which is free and open to students and their families, will present information about financial aid opportunities, scholarships and the financial aid process, while also exploring options available to families facing difficult financial circumstances.

ďThis workshop will help the University show students and their families that college is affordable by introducing them to the financial aid process and the many resources available,Ē according to Christopher Tremblay, interim director of financial aid at UM-Dearborn.

The workshop coincides with UM-Dearbornís on-site admissions month, which allows undergraduate applicants to complete the application and admissions process in a single day throughout the month of December. Participating high school graduates and college transfer students will have the $30 application fee waived and can meet with an admissions counselor, have their transcripts reviewed, tour the campus and receive an admission decision--all in one day.

"On-site admissions provides a one-stop opportunity for future students to apply for admission, learn of their admission decision and take care of most of the enrollment steps," said Deb Peffer, interim director of admissions. To participate, call the undergraduate Office of Admissions and Orientation at 313-593-5100 to schedule an appointment or visit www.umd.umich.edu/onsite. Students should bring a copy of their high school and/or all college transcripts.
