Elliott gift to UM-Dearborn School of Management will support the School's "strong commitment to academic excellence"

DEARBORN / Dec. 19, 2008---Ed Elliott says he has used the lessons he learned as a student at the University of Michigan-Dearborn School of Management as “the litmus test” for all the decisions in his professional life.

Those lessons must have been very good ones. Since graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1967, Elliott has enjoyed a long and successful professional career, and is now a principal of an international investment group based in Chicago.

Out of gratitude for the preparation he received at UM-Dearborn’s School of Management, Elliott has made a $2 million pledge to support the School’s “strong commitment to academic excellence.”

“Ed Elliott’s gift will provide us a most valuable source of funding to direct toward key initiatives and opportunities to advance academic excellence,” according to School of Management Dean Kim Schatzel. “His gift supports our important efforts to attract, retain, and develop great faculty, develop and deliver academically rigorous and highly relevant business degree programs, and produce high quality research that is important to business.”

A portion of the gift has been designated to endow a chaired professorship in memory of his late wife, Betty F. Elliott. Ed and Betty Elliott met as students at UM-Dearborn and they climbed the career ladder together in very successful careers. Betty Elliott died in 2002.

Ed Elliott began his career with the international accounting and consulting firm of Touche Ross & Co, now Deloitte, in Detroit and worked there for more than 20 years. In 1984, he resigned his partnership with the firm to become a principal of the investment group in Chicago.

The gift is the largest ever to the UM-Dearborn School of Management as well as the largest ever from an alumnus of the campus. Elliott also has been a devoted supporter of the school in other ways, most recently serving as a member of the Chancellor’s Campaign Council.

“Ed Elliott's gift signals his tremendous confidence in our faculty, administration and staff, and most important, in the School of Management’s future,” Schatzel said. “The support of highly successful alumni like Ed Elliott endorses that we have much to be proud of and that our valuable alumni are deeply committed to the School and its future successes.”
