Criteria based approach to shared University governance This document is intended to extend other, previous work by faculty governance, and the central administration, related to the topic of shared University governance and, more specifically, to provide a set of criteria to aid in determining under what circumstances formal, central faculty governance should become directly involved in institutional decision making (e.g., planning and actions). Shared governance is a cherished tradition of American universities, including the University of Michigan. The first edition of this document was distributed to University of Michigan faculty to clarify the general principles that underlie the roles and responsibilities of the faculty in University governance. The principles are based upon, and intended to be consistent with, the Bylaws of the Board of Regents. This document expands that earlier edition with additional information concerning central faculty governance to supplement the information that was provided earlier concerning academic unit governance. We hope that this document will prove as useful to members of the university community as the first edition was. FNS is an online, searchable data base of the research and teaching interests of UM-Dearborn faculty. We hope this system will help faculty members more easily connect with others on campus with similar interests. Teaching Effectiveness Taskforce Report Approved May 9, 2005 The Teaching Effectiveness taskforce, having considered the approaches of UM-Ds academic units regarding their provision of evidence of teaching effectiveness for promotion and tenure decisions, observe the following points and make the following recommendations. UMD Faculty Handbook Supplement 2002 This handbook serves as a supplement to the University of Michigan Faculty Handbook for Instructional Staff. The handbook is also complemented by the University of Michigan-Dearborn Student Handbook, which should be consulted for policies and procedures that relate to student academic and non-academic matters. Approved UM-D Bylaws 2005 amended 2008 This document contains campus bylaws on faculty governance.
