The University of Michigan-Dearborn Current Student Scholarship Program for Graduate Students

 

The UM-Dearborn Current Student Scholarship Program recognizes outstanding academic achievement among current University of Michigan-Dearborn students. The UM-D Current Student Scholarship Program provides many of the University’s scholarship opportunities on one single application.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

  • Graduate students who have completed a minimum of 6 credit hours at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

  • Students who are currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program.

  • Students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens.

  • Students in good academic standing with a cumulative graduate GPA of 6.0 or above (unless otherwise noted in the individual scholarship description).

Important Considerations

  • Recipients must elect a minimum of 4 credit hours during the term in which the award is to be used.

  • Applicants must meet any additional specific requirements for individual programs.

  • Applicants should first save the PDF application to their personal drive.  Complete the scholarship application on the save file.
  • All applications must be complete and submitted by the deadline.

Application Information

Applications are available online at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Office of Financial Aid Website. The application deadline for the 2010-11 academic year is February 1, 2010.

The Scholarships

Qualified graduate students can apply for the following scholarships using the University of Michigan-Dearborn Upperclass Scholarship Program application:

Academic Scholarship For Graduate Students
This award recognizes superior academic achievement by degree-seeking students enrolled in a graduate program and seeks to encourage students to enroll in graduate programs. Awards will be based on academic achievement, expectations for continued achievement, academic and career goals, and financial need. Applicants must submit a resume that includes professional and academic achievements (e.g. papers, awards, etc.), as well as community and/or service activities.

American Association Of University Women (AAUW) Scholarship
The AAUW Scholarship provides incentive awards to women whose education has been interrupted and are now enrolled in a degree-seeking program. Applicants must be women who have had at least a two-year interruption in their education, and are at least 25 years of age.

Shirley Dudek Demmer Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established to recognize, recruit and /or encourage the continued progress of, and provide assistance to UM-Dearborn undergraduate students in the Women’s & Gender Studies program and graduate students in the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program who have selected Women’s & Gender Studies as their thematic focus. Merit and financial need will be a considered in the selection process.

General Merit Scholarship
This scholarship has a dual function: 1) to reward superior academic achievement, and 2) to help students with the financial burden of attending college. Applicants may be degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate students at UM-D. Students taking fewer than 12 hours (undergraduate) or 6 hours (graduate) must provide a letter of justification, explaining why they are not a full-time student, but will still be considered.

Barnes and Noble Book Scholarship
The Barnes and Noble Book Scholarship is sponsored by the University of Michigan-Dearborn Barnes and Noble Bookstore.  This program is intended to help defray the costs of college attendance by assisting students with the cost of books.  Awards are drawn from individual book accounts established for recipients and the UM-Dearborn Bookstore for the purpose of purchasing only textbooks.

Graduate Study in Special EducationScholarship
The scholarship is funded through generous gifts by Alumni and friends of The University of Michigan-Dearborn School of Education. The purpose of the program is to support master’s level study in Special Education. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative 3.5 GPA (4.0 scales) and must have completed 10 credits in the Master’s of Education in Special Education program, and be seeking endorsement in either Learning Disabled (LD) or Emotional Impairments (EL).

Stokes-Hoffman Scholarship
This scholarship has been set up to recognize, recruit and/or encourage the continued progress of, and provide assistance to students who are active in the UM-Dearborn Gay/Straight Alliance or another related organization and/or are interested in gender identity and/or sexual identity issues. Strong preference will be given to students who also provide evidence of involvement in community affairs, or interest in law and public policy, public administration, or related areas of study at UM-Dearborn. While merit will be the primary criterion, financial need will also be a factor in the selection process.
