Your Permanent "umich.edu" Address
E-mail forwarding is a service that re-routes e-mail messages sent to "you@umich.edu" to your "real" e-mail account. When you change e-mail providers, you simply change the e-mail address you've listed in the University's electronic directory, and future messages will be forwarded to your new e-mail account. This feature allows you to demonstrate your pride in being a U-M alumnus/a while taking advantage of the convenience of a constant e-mail address.
To use the e-mail forwarding feature, you must have access to the Internet, maintain an e-mail account (e.g. through a commercial provider, your employer, etc.) and have a U-M uniqname and password. All UM-Dearborn alumni can take advantage of free email forwarding.

To sign up, follow these steps:
- Go to https://weblogin.umich.edu/
- If you have a
uniqname and password, log in and go to step 5.
- Otherwise,
click "Alumni" under "Need A Login Name?"
- Follow
the instructions to get a uniqname and enter an e-mail forwarding
address, once completing this process, you are finished.

Click "directory.umich.edu"

- Click
the "Bind" button at the top right corner of the screen.
- Authenticate by entering your uniqname and password,
then click "Log in". You will be returned to the University's
main directory screen.
- In the "search" box in the upper left
corner of the main directory, search for yourself by name.
- Your entire directory entry should appear.
- Click the "Modify" button at the top
right corner of the screen.
- Scroll down the page to the "E-mail Forwarding
Address" box.
- If
the address that appears here is the address where you want to
ultimately receive all e-mail sent to youruniqname@umich.edu, then you
are finished. Go no further.
- If no address appears or the address that appears
here is not the address where you want to ultimately receive
all e-mail sent to you, click on "E-mail Forwarding Address"
box.
- Fill in the e-mail address at which you would
like to receive your forwarded e-mail (e.g., bluefan@hotmail.com)
- Make sure the changes you have made are correct.
- Click the "Save Changes" button either
at the top or bottom of the page.
- A message will appear at the top of the page
in red which indicates that your changes have been saved.
- You are now finished setting
up your e-mail forwarding.
Frequently Asked Questions: Q. How often do I need to update my destination address? A. As often as it changes. In addition we may periodically ask you to verify that you are still using the service.
Q. In the future how will I update my destination address? A. Using the same steps you used here.
Q. How long does it take for a new forwarding address to become active? A. The destination address you enter becomes active immediately.
