This pond looks much different
now than when the Fords lived on this property. This
garden once boasted of 12,000 roses in over 400 varieties
for which Mrs. Ford hired over 25 gardners to care for during
the 1920's, 30's, and 40's.
Today, the pond that was at
the center of the rose garden is now used for pond study programs and
research through the Environmental Interpretive Center. It serves
as a "natural" aquatic habitat where many different species of aquatic
organisms live and can be studied by students of all ages. Below
are pictures of some of the classes that have come and studied our
pond. What organisms can you observe living in our pond? Do
you think our pond is a healthy or unhealthy habitat?
