Dr. Seong Hong is the current Director of the Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC). She is an Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education and has taught at the University of Michigan-Dearborn since 1998. She coordinates the Early Childhood academic programs within the College of Education, Health, and Human Services and oversees the academic program provided to the children, as well as the practicum and internship experiences provided to prospective teachers at the Early Childhood Education Center. She assures that the curriculum is of the highest quality in coordination with the site director, teaching staff and student interns. She has been the Reggio inspired curriculum advisor for Early Childhood Education Center since starting at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and has conducted documentation pedagogy study for her entire academic career.
Her research agenda addresses the development of Inquiry activities with adult learners and young children. Her ongoing research is on the development and application of the Cycle of Inquiry System (COI), a professional development system for emergent curriculum planning and for professional development of early childhood teachers and teacher education. The COI system is designed to connect the analysis of documentation data with intentional planning for long-term inquiry inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach. (See the link to this research).
