An exciting year-round study of the natural world for 9 and 10 year-olds. 
Once a month sessions, held mostly on Saturdays, involve participants in a variety
of outdoor experiences.  Sessions begin in September, followed every month sessions.
(Examples of sessions described below. Actual Programs may differ)
   
Nature by Night. Activities include using lights and sheets to view
insects and spiders, a bat echolocation game, and a wolf pack howl. 
 
Birds and Migration. Visit our Rouge River Bird Observatory
to learn about bird banding. Then birdwatching in the Natural Area with activities to help you quickly identify birds.

Plotting Around. Become ecologists for the day exploring small
patches of natural habitat.

 Owl Prowl. Search for owls in the floodplain and see a 
slide show and banding demo.

What's in a Nest? Learn the art of nest finding and 
decipher the riddles woven into bird nests without disrupting their family life.  

Pawprint Signatures. Learn how to read "track stories" in the snow,
which reveal the comings and goings of wildlife.

 Life Beneath the Ice. Pond life, especially of the microscopic variety,
does not stop in the winter! Study these amazing life forms in the University's biology lab.

 Maple Sugaring.. Take part in the entire process of making maple syrup.

 Big Trees and Small Wonders.  To uncover the mysteries of the floodplain
forest, we'll measure some big trees, study the soil, and look for spiders, insects,
and salamanders.

Tip-Toading. Watch American Toads gather and call at a breeding pool
as we conduct a night hike.

Eco-Rally. You'd better know our natural area by now, because you'll have
to find your way around it with some pretty mysterious clues to guide you.
