What is an Insect

Tools and Methods for Collecting Aquatic Insects

There are different techniques depending on where you sample to best capture your insects, be it from a slow moving water environment (a pond or lake edge) to a fast moving water environment (a river). All of the insects identified in this key came from a pond. Even though I will discuss sampling techniques in rivers, the insects you could find there might not be in this key.
