The Lepidoptera Order: Moths and Butterflies

Go to the Pyralidae Family

Pyralidae is the only family of moths found in the Rose garden Pond, and there are no butterflies found there. Aquatic moths spend the first three stages of their development, egg, larva, and pupa in the water. The larva of Pyralidae family chew small holes in water lily leaves and use the pieces to create a small, raft like home built of two circular pieces glued together. To view the larva you must find one of the homes, which simply float on top of the water, and then gently pull them apart.
