About Out of Turkey
Out of Turkey is a survivor's memoir, published by the Armenian
Research Center and distributed by the Armenian Research Center and Wayne State
University Press that was released on August 19, 1994. The book is the story of
Donik "Haji Bey" Yessaian, as told by his son, Harry Yessaian, through the voice
of Harry Yessaian's uncle, Nazar, and several other family members. Events from
the book take place in Efkereh (near Kayseri); Smyrna (Izmir); Athens; Worcester,
Massachusetts; and the Detroit metropolitan area. The book is edited by Dr. Dennis
Papazian, and its publication has been made possible by a generous subvention
from Mr. Chuck Yessaian.
The book also includes a short history of Armenia written by Dr. Papazian and a
bibliography for further reading. Excerpts from five advance
reviews are included in this homepage.
The book is available for purchase from the Armenian Research Center, University of
Michigan-Dearborn, 4901 Evergreen Rd., Dearborn, MI 48128-1491 for $14.95, plus $2.50 for
postage (plus 50 cents postage for each additional book).
