College of Arts, Sciences and Letters

ANITA DUL, ’75 B.S., is executive mortgage consultant at Vista Mortgage Corp. in Livonia.  She had been executive mortgage consultant at Nationwide First Mortgage in Southfield.

ROBERT HOFF, ’75 B.A., has been promoted to president at Incoe Corp. in Troy.  He had been CFO and COO.

DONALD PARSHALL, JR., ’76 B.A., has joined the legal staff of Nissan North America in Farmington Hills as senior counsel in the Product and Business Litigation Group.  He and his wife, Christine Kaczanowski, reside in Grosse Pointe Farms with their daughter Alicia.

SHERRI (ROMAN) PERIERA, ’79 B.A., taught French for six years in a private school in Canton as head of the Foreign Language Department.  She received her master’s in the art of teaching from Marygrove College and received her professional teaching certificate.  Her husband, Simon, is a senior technical support engineer and she currently cares full-time for their two sons, David and Michael.

KAREN HOLLAND, ’82 B.A., ’96 M.P.A., has been elected District 28 Governor for Toastmasters International.  The one-year position of District Governor is the top local office for the organization, which is the world’s foremost non-profit organization dedicated to helping people develop communication and leadership skills.  District 28 is comprised of nearly 100 member clubs in Southeast Michigan, Southwest Ontario, Canada and Northwest Ohio.  Holland joined Toastmasters nine years ago, and is now a member of several clubs, including being a charter member of the community club that meets at UM-Dearborn.

VICKI BARNETT, ’81 B.G.S., ’93 M.B.A., Mayor of the City of Farmington Hills, was named to the list of the Most Influential Women in 2007 by Crain’s Detroit Business.  A financial planner specializing in retirement planning, she pushed for Farmington Hills to adopt a citywide economic master plan for “future redevelopment and sustainability”, which is said to be the first of its kind in the county.  As president of the Michigan Municipal League, she is championing plans to create an economic union of Great Lakes states in a kind of North Coast to bolster the regional economy.

DEBORAH WITHROW, ’84 B.A., has been promoted to vice president of strategic relationships at Health Alliance Plan in Detroit.  She had been vice president of provider development.

JULIE (ZIMMERMAN) ADAMS, ’85 B.A., is the coordinator of the Executives in Residence (mentorship) program at <Columbia Business School in New York City.

<strong>CAROL SOUCHOCK, ’85 B.A., is the Adrian Public Library services director.  Previously she was adult services supervisor at the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library in Midland and served as technology coordinator at the Southfield Public Library.  She earned her master’s degree in library and information science from Wayne State University and holds an archival administration certificate.

SUSAN CARNEY, ’86 B.A., has been named business editor of The Detroit News.  A veteran auto and business journalist, Carney joined the newspaper in 2001 as a reporter covering DaimlerChrysler AG and automotive suppliers.  She later served as assistant auto editor, deputy business editor and auto editor.  In the latter role, she has directed the newspaper’s award-winning auto coverage.  Prior to joining The News, Carney worked for Automotive News, the Ann Arbor News and the Bangor Daily News in Bangor, Maine.

FREDERICK YOUNG, ’89 B.A., ’00 M.A.L.S., who resides in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, received his Ph.D. in rhetoric and composition from Michigan Technology University.

DR. SANDRA FIASCHETTI, ’90 B.A., is executive assessment team leader at Development Dimensions International in Southfield.  She had been assessment, selection and on-boarding manager at DaimlerChrysler in Auburn Hills.

KAREN CHAPELL, ’93 B.A., is vice president and portfolio manager at Retirement Income Solutions Inc. in Ann Arbor.  She had been relationship manager at Beacon Investment Co. in Ann Arbor.

DAVID ANDERSON, ’94 B.A., a lawyer with the litigation firm of Collins, Einhorn, Farrell & Ulanoff, P.C., was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Oakland County Bar Association, which is the largest voluntary bar association in Michigan.  In 2007, he won the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel’s Golden Gavel Award by demonstrating significant achievement in the area of advancing  “young attorneys” as evidenced by his leadership of others and advancement of the image of his peers by representation.  He and his wife Lorelei (Mariona), ’93 B.A., are the proud parents of Adam and Jacob.

JENNIFER SABOURIN, ’95 B.A.,has been elected principal of the firm, Miller Canfield in Detroit.  Previously she had been associate.  Sabourin in a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment Group, specializing in the defense of workplace discrimination, harassment and wage and hour claims.   She received her J.D. from Wayne State University School of Law.

DIAWN JONES, ’97 B.S., has been promoted to R&D group leader at Akzo Nobel Coatings, Inc. in Pontiac.

LESLIE (CLARK) DAGG, ’99 B.A., has been promoted to account manager at Bianchi Public Relations, Inc. in Troy.  She joined the firm in 2000 and most recently held the position of senior account executive.  In her role, she is responsible for overseeing the firm’s micronAir Filtration, PPG Industries and Snap-on Tools accounts, as well as provide support to additional accounts, including Johnson Controls.</o:p>

JOHN KOURLETAKIS, ’01 B.A., is information technology site manager at Fox Run in Southfield.  He had been help-desk manager at Real Estate One corporate office in  Southfield.

KAY MILEWSKI, ’01 B.A., ’05 M.P.A., is a regional manager with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities program and is working at the National Energy Technology Laboratory in Morgantown, WV.  The Clean Cities program supports local decisions that contribute to reductions in petroleum consumption including deployment of alternative fuel vehicles and infrastructure and promotion of fuel blends, fuel efficient driving practices, hybrid vehicles and idle reduction.

MATTHEW SCHLEIF, ’02 B.A., and his wife Donna (Logsdon), ’03 B.A., are currently teaching in the Detroit and Flat Rock areas.  They met while participating in the athletic program at UM-Dearborn, he was a basketball player and she was on the volleyball team.

ANNE UMBARGER, ’04 B.A., is marketing coordinator at C/D/H in Royal Oak.  She had been marketing and graphic design coordinator at Reliance Software Systems Inc. in Farmington Hills.

LISA BERRY, ’06 B.A., is a management trainee at Enterprise.

LAURA MATHIS, ’06 B.A., is coordinator of e-recruitment in Admissions and Orientation at UM-Dearborn.

JASMINE MARK, ’07 B.A., is project assistant in the Public Relations and Marketing Department at the Detroit Medical Center.

KEITH KELLER, ’78 B.S., is national partner at Callaway Partners in Southfield.  He had been deputy chief auditor and senior vice president at Wachovia Corp. in Charlotte, NC.

BETH McCROHAN, ’82 B.S., is vice president and chief information officer at American Community Mutual Insurance in Livonia.

LIZABETH ARDISANA, ’84 M.S.E.M.E., was named to the list of the Most Influential Women  in 2007 by Crain’s Detroit Business.  She is principal owner of the technical and communication services firm ASG Renaissance based in Dearborn, with offices in California, Washington,  South Carolina and Ontario.  Her company was the first minority-owned service supplier to receive Ford Motor Co.’s Q1 award and it was a finalist fro the Ernst & Young Michigan Entrepreneur of the Year.

PATRICK BASSETT, ’86 B.S.E.M.E, was promoted to vice president at Denso International America Inc. in Southfield.  He had been director of thermal systems engineering.

JOHN KRAKOWIAK, ’93 B.S.E.E.E., ’95 M.S.E.E.E., is partner at DeRoy & Devereaux Private Investment Counsel Inc. in Southfield.  He had been consultant at New England Pension Consultants in Detroit.

MARK FERTIG, ’95 B.S., has been promoted to associate at Harley Ellis Devereaux Corp. in Detroit.  He had been information technology leader.

JAMES FRANZ, ’96 M.S.E.M., is senior lean consultant at Optiprise, Inc., a global consultancy owned by Dr. Jeffrey Liker, author of “The Toyota Way.”  Prior to this, Franz spent two decades in the automotive industry with Toyota Motor Corporation and Ford Motor Company, in engineering and manufacturing assignments in Japan, Australia, Europe, Asia and North America.

THOMAS MILLER, ’02 M.S.E.M., is assistant general manager of interior/exterior trim design and material/paint testing departments at Toyoda Gosei North America in Troy.

SAUNYA WILLIAMS, ’03 M.S.E.E.E., relocated to Atlanta in Fall 2006 to begin working on her doctorate degree in electrical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

SALLIE ATSALIS, ’84 B.A., is principal consultant, Michigan regional office, at Model Metrics inLivonia.  She had been account director, automotive information solutions at R. L. Polk & Co. in Southfield.

DAWN WATSON, ’99 B.A., ’03 M.P.A., first-grade teacher at Arno Elementary in Allen Park, recently presented a seminar in Dearborn through her business, Strategic Parenting Solutions, focusing on how to raise responsible, well-behaved children with less conflict.

LAURA RIDENOUR, ’05 M.P.A., was recently named the City of Dearborn’s newest fire inspector.  She is the first female to hold this position in the city’s Fire Department.

MICHAEL KOWALCZYK, ’65 B.B.A., was named to the newly created position of senior vice president and general manager of Valassis In-Store Marketing for Valassis Communication Inc. in Livonia.  He had been vice president of marketing.

CHRISTOPHER CROWLEY, ’82 B.S.A., has been promoted to president at PPOM in Southfield.  He had been COO.

CHARLES ONESIAN, ’82 B.S.A., is senior vice president and CFO at Qualigence Inc. in Livonia.  He had been chief administrative officer at N. Gupta M.D. P.C. in Trenton.

RAY BORDEN, ’84 B.S.A., is managing partner for Food Services of Livonia, dba Giulio’s Cucina Italia, a full service fine dining Italian restaurant in .Livonia.

REBECCA CAMPBELL, ’89 B.S.A., passed away on June 12, 2007 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Organ Transplant Center after a five-year struggle with intestinal cancer.  At the time of her death, she was an IT manager at Imerys, a French mining company, with headquarters in Atlanta.  Campbell’s parents, Bill, ’62 B.S.E.M.E., ’67 M.S.E.M.E., and Doris, ’87 B.S.E.M.E., have established a scholarship at UM-Dearborn in her memory.   Donations may be made to the Rebecca Ann Campbell Memorial Endowed Scholarship.

GUY RAU, ’89 B.B.A., is senior vice president and manager of the corporate banking division at TCF Bank in Troy.  He had been state director of business banking at Charter One in Southfield.

JOHN TOLOFF, ’90 B.B.A., is president of J&J Slavik Inc. in Detroit.  He had been vice president and CFO.

LAURIE FELAX, ’92 B.S.A., is managing director, operational strategy and performance improvement group at Stout Risius Ross in Farmington Hills.  She had been president and founder of Harbour-Felax Group in Troy.

SEAN SANT, ’92 B.B.A., has been promoted to senior manager at Virchow Krause in Southfield.  He had been manager.

LYNN McGUIRE, ’93 B.B.A., joined the law firm of Butzel Long as a senior attorney in the firm’s Ann Arbor office.  She concentrates her practice in the area of employee benefits law.  Previously she had been a partner in a private practice, providing services to various fiduciaries.  She earned her J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School, where she was a student note editor for the Journal of College and University Law.

ANTHONY TAKLA, ’93 B.A., is senior vice president at Campbell-Ewald in Warren.  He had been senior client representative/account manager at Acxiom Corp. in Little Rock, AR.

BRYAN KULIKOWSKI, ’97 B.B.A., is vice president at Morpace International Inc. in Farmington Hills.  He had been senior director, syndicate research practice at Harris Interactive Inc. in Ann Arbor.

CAROLYN JOHNSON, ’99 B.B.A., has been promoted to manager at UHY Advisors MI, Inc. in Sterling Heights.  She had been senior accountant.

LAURA SPILKA, ’99 B.B.A., has been promoted to manager, tax department at PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P. in Detroit.  She had been senior associate.

DANIEL SCHWALM, ’00 B.B.A., is assistant prosecuting attorney for Michigan’s Jackson County.

PATRICK WOJCINSKI, ’02 B.B.A., has been promoted to manager at UHY Advisors MI, Inc. in Sterling Heights.  He had been senior accountant.

BARBARA O’CONNELL, ’06 M.B.A., is partner and co-founder of Michigan Healthcare Improvement, LLC.  MHI is a consulting firm specializing in improving quality and profitability for hospitals and physician groups.

LAURA WESTPHAL, ’07 M.B.A., has been promoted to marketing manager of the SmithGroup, Inc. Detroit office.  She had been senior marketing coordinator.  In her role, she will manage all marketing functions at the Detroit office-level and will be responsible for working with office management to develop and communicate marketing information, plans and projections.
