Faculty in the Microbiology Program

Richard Adler
Microbiology Concentration Advisor
Associate Professor of Biology; B.S. 1969, Ph.D. 1973, Pennsylvania State University.

His research interests are in Microbiology and Virology and have included analysis of the interactions between herpes viruses and the host cell, molecular biology of corona viruses, and history of science.
He teaches courses in immunology, microbiology, virology and epidemiology.

Marilee Benore Parsons
Associate Professor of Biology and Biochemistry; B.A. 1979, Thomas More College; Ph.D. 1986, University of Delaware.

Her research focuses on gene regulation of proteins involved in vitamin metabolism, regulation and transport, as well as uses of the World Wide Web and other computer technologies as teaching tools.
She teaches microbial genetics, biochemistry and a variety of interdisciplinary courses.

Sonia M. Tiquia
Assistant Professor of Biology and Microbiology; B.S. 1991, Central Luzon State University, Philippines; Ph.D. 1997, The University of Hong Kong.

She specializes in waste processing biology and microbiology, microbial community structure and dynamics in natural environments, and the use of genomic technology in environmental microbiology and microbial ecology.
She teaches courses in microbiology, microbial genetics, microbial physiology, and applied and environmental microbiology.
