Mineral Knowledgebase

Mineral Knowledgebase, Version 1.0, was written in 1996 by Oved Yavine, former Computer and Information Science student at The University of Michigan - Dearborn. This software allows the user to search a database of 120 minerals based on: 1) hardness, 2) cleavage, 3) luster, 4) color, and 5) streak properties.

The following links include the data files required to install the Mineral Knowlegebase software on your Windows 95 PC. To download the program, you will need to:

    1. Create a folder on your hard drive and name it: MineralID
    2.

    3. Create four folders within your MineralID folder. Name these folders: Disk1, Disk2, Disk3, and Disk4.
    4.

    5. Now, you're ready to download the following files. To do this, right-click your mouse on a file and save-as to the appropriate folder that you have already created on your computer.
    6.  Disk 1

       Disk 2

       Disk 3

       Disk 4

    7. Once you have downloaded each of the files into the appropriate folder, you must unzip each of the four files.
    8.

    9. After you have completed the unzip process, you must copy the files from each of the DiskX folders into its own floppy. Remember to label your floppy disks as Disk1, Disk2, Disk3, and Disk4. Also, when copying the files to the floppy, do not include the original zipped file. Only copy the files that were created during the unzip process and keep the appropriate files on the appropriate disks (e.g., Disk1 folder unzipped files should be copied onto your floppy labeled Disk1).
