Geology of National Parks
July 8-14, 2007

The Appalachian Mountains and Gettysburg National Park

Study of the geology (stratigraphy, structure, and
geomorphology) of major national parks. Specific parks
visited and studied will vary from year to year, allowing
the course to be repeated for credit. Emphasis will be
placed on taking field notes, interpretation of
sequence (cratonic) stratigraphy, regional correlations,
paleogeographic and paleoclimatologic reconstructions,
small- and regional-scale structure patterns, and facies
changes related to sea-level changes.

Prerequisites: a grade of C in Geology 118 (or equivalent course) or currently teaching earth science, integrated science or general science in grades 5-12. Lab fee: $50

Note that the National Association of Geoscience Teachers offers $500 scholarships for Field Courses (Appl 2/16/07).
