the University
The University of Michigan-Dearborn is one of three campuses of
the University of Michigan. Located on 200 acres of the former estate
of automotive pioneer Henry Ford, it offers the advantages of a
U of M education on a more personal scale. It brings the University's
tradition of academic excellence directly into metropolitan Detroit,
a region of over 5 million people with global significance for commerce
and industry.
Established in 1959 with a gift from the Ford Motor Company, the
U of M-Dearborn has grown from a two-year senior college into a
comprehensive four-year university, offering undergraduate and professional
degrees in the liberal arts and sciences, engineering, management,
education, and public administration. The campus was recently recognized
in national rankings as among the top eight institutions of its
kind in the Midwest.
More than seventy programs are offered for degrees at the U of M-Dearborn.
There are 230 full-time instructional faculty members, of whom 86%
hold doctorate degrees. The University has extensive cooperative
education and internship programs, offering structured work experiences
to bring classroom learning into the world of work.
- The College of Engineering and Computer Science is recognized
as one of the best in the country.
- The School of Management provides high quality, practice-oriented
AACSB Accredited business programs and professional internship
opportunities to well-qualified students.
- The College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters gives its students
a broad grounding in the liberal arts and sciences as well as
degree programs in twenty eight disciplines.
- The School of Education is dedicated to preparing human service
practitioners.
The University of Michigan-Dearborn is continuing to expand and
develop its programs, facilities, and use of learning technologies.
This institution has been shaped by its history of interaction with
business, government and industry in southeastern Michigan, and
is committed to responding to the needs of the region in the future.
