Campaign for UM-Dearborn Goal: $40 million

Making our larger vision a reality will require funding for four distinct goals:

  • Outstanding students, supported by scholarships
  • Superlative faculty in all fields, supported by endowed professorships
  • Excellent learning facilities and equipment
  • Sustainable campus-to-community partnerships, supported by research dollars

Student Support: $7.5 Million

With a long-standing commitment to access and a recognition that some students are being "priced out" of higher education, the University of Michigan-Dearborn places a high priority on providing financial assistance for students.

To ensure that future students have the assistance they need to achieve their educational goals, the University seeks private support to increase funding for need-based scholarships across the campus. Additional funding for merit-based scholarships will also help the University by supporting our efforts to bring the brightest students to the campus. Great students inspire faculty and bring out the best in fellow students. Talented students are all too easily lost to well-endowed peer institutions able to offer substantial scholarship support.

Faculty Support: $10 Million

We seek to create four endowed professorships ($2.5 million each) during the campaign.

The flexible funding, the release time and the honor associated with endowed positions represent a powerful tool in recruiting and retaining the best faculty. And along with their expertise, outstanding scholars often bring substantialoutside resources such as federal and private grant funding.

The caliber of academic institution rests upon the quality of its faculty. Like students, faculty members are attracted to those institutions best equipped to help them reach their intellectual goals and where they are most likely to beassociated with the most exciting colleagues and peers.

Facilities Support: $6 Million

We seek to expand our engineering and computer science facilities ($4 million) and our natural sciences facilities ($2 million).

The University's capacity to offer modern, safe and well-equipped laboratories can make the difference in competition for outstanding faculty members. State- of-the-art computing infrastructure is another critical factor in guaranteeing that faculty, staff and students gain the greatest possible benefit from continuing advances in technology.

The demands of the community and the pace of our discoveries drive the need for renovation and expansion.

Signature Project Support: $11.5 Million

From engineering to education to environmental studies, students and faculty are solving the problems around us. How to profitably design, manufacture and market a low-mass, high-mileage automobile? How to clean up the Rouge River and urban brownfields? How to promote real pluralism? How to give teachers in struggling schools the tools they need to succeed?

A successful UM-Dearborn Difference campaign will bring our already strong capacity for genuine, measurable impact in this community to a new and sustainable level. In the longer term, that impact will increase, attracting students, faculty and administrators who will further this ambitious vision. The results will be new kinds of learning, tangible progress in key areas of need, and a unique, contagious energy that will fuel success at the University of Michigan-Dearborn for decades.
