Greetings UM-Dearborn Alumni and Friends,
In this latest message, I’m happy to report that our annual Golf Outing achieved remarkable success despite the current economic conditions in southeast Michigan. This year’s golf outing raised over $23,000 for the Legacy Scholarship, and all who attended had a great day of fun and fellowship.
This year’s winning team was sponsored by Interim Provost Don Bord and his office, and the members were Sandy Beck, Linda Grimm, Roma Heaney, and Julie Tigani (pictured below). I’ll be sure to inform our incoming Provost, Professor Kate Davy, that next year she’ll have to measure up to Don’s prowess in stacking a team!
You can see more pictures from the golf outing on our Facebook page, but we have a few below for your enjoyment. Next year’s date is tentatively set for May 14, so mark your calendars and don’t miss this signature event in 2010.
With the golf outing behind us, your Alumni Society is now preparing for its annual meeting. This year, the annual meeting will be held at the Alumni Center – 200 Fletcher Street, Ann Arbor. Light refreshments and networking will be offered at 6 p.m., and the meeting will convene at 7 p.m. This year’s agenda includes an address by Steve Grafton, President and CEO of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan; an update on the society’s financials including the Legacy Scholarship; and elections to the Alumni Society Board of Governors. I encourage you to RSVP for the event. $15 is the cost for refreshments, and parking is available at the Fletcher parking structure for $5 (or you can take your chances with the meters on the street). All UM-Dearborn graduates are welcome, but space is limited to 150 attendees, so please RSVP ASAP!
With elections being a key part of the annual meeting, I’d like to invite you to consider running for a seat on the Alumni Society Board of Governors. Board members are elected for a three-year term, and six members are elected each year. Any UM-Dearborn graduate may serve, and must submit to an interview process prior to being placed on the ballot. Interested candidates should contact Brad Leidal, Chair of the Nominating and By-Laws Committee, or contact Alumni Relations at 313-593-5131.
