February 16, 2008 :: Indiana Tech University

Dearborn, MI – In her last home game senior Kandice Perryman (55) led Michigan-Dearborn (13-16, 2-11) to a conference win against Indiana Tech (1-27, 1-11), with a final score of 76-55. With 15 rebounds and 18 points for the game Perryman ended her basketball carear in style. Three other ladies also scored in the double digits this afternoon's fast-paced game, junior Chelsea Acho with 13 points, sophomore Nicole MacLeod with 14, and junior Chael Bridges leading the way with an amazing 23 points. With an already short roster, senior Lynnea Harris did not play, both MacLeod and freshman Katie Roberts were fowled out towards the end of the second half. Read more at the Michigan Journal...

Michigan - Dearborn will play their last game of the regular season on the road against Aquinas College on Wednesday, February 20 at 5:00 pm.

January 26, 2008 :: Aquinas College

Dearborn, MI – It was another game where Coach Pinkowski has to think about the what if's. Michigan - Dearborn (11-11, 1-6) played another great game against a quality WHAC opponet in Aquinas College (16-6, 4-3) and fell 67-64. It was a game in which the Lady Wolves played closely in the first half and than exploded at the end of the game to pressure Aquinas near the point of handing the game over to the Lady Wolves. But it would not be so on this day and the Lady's will have to wonder the what if's along with their coach tonight.

The first half started off well for the Lady Wolves as they were able to take their shots early and still hang around. They would fall down by at most 6 points to the Saints of Aquinas but would than work to cut the lead to only 2, 24-22 with just 4 minutes left in the half. But a late run by the Saints would put them up 34-26 at half time.

The second half would start out terribly sluggish for the Lady Wolves as they would fall down by as much as 15 to the Saints. Coach Pinkowski would take a critical time out and must have had some inspiring words because the Lady Wolves came out of the timeout with passion. Candace Cobb came in and her impact could be felt right away as she would make some nice passes to get the Lady Wolves offense rolling again. The lead would be cut to one with just over 3 minutes left in the half. But it would be as close as they would come, the two teams would trade baskets and free throws in the last handful of minutes and though the Lady Wolves had plenty of opportunites to take the game at the end they would fall just short.

Michigan - Dearborn begins a 4 game road trip on Wednesday as they travel to Siena Hieghts University (11-10, 2-4). Tip off will be at 7:30 in Adrian.

January 21, 2008 :: Grace Bible College

Dearborn, MI – In the final non-conference game of the year, Michigan - Dearborn (10-10, 0-5) would recieve quite a strong test from the Tigers of Grace Bible (14-7), but was able to come up with a solid win 61-58. The Lady Wolves would start the game on fire and build up a ten point lead in the first half before having to hang on for dear life in the second half.

The first half would start out with the Lady Wolves shooting well and building a nice lead and going up ten with just seven minutes left to go in the first half. The lead would grow and shrink several times in the first half but the Lady Wolves would be able to hang onto a 35-29 Halftime lead.

The second half got interesting real fast as the Lady Wolves went cold from the field shooting just 25% and playing some soft defense. Grace Bible would be able to work their way back into the game by the 8th minute. Thankfully for the Lady Wolves, the defense would step up and hold the lead. Kandice Perryman would make a huge basket with just 30 seconds left to put the Lady Wolves up by 1, 59-58. On the following Grace Bible possesion Nicole MacLeod would come up with a huge defensive block and seal the game. Katie Roberts would add two free throws and a steal by Chanel Bridges would close the game out with a 61-58 win.

The Lady Wolves would travel to Indiana Tech (1-19, 1-4) Wednesday to resume conference play with tip off scheduled for 5:30 PM.

January 19, 2008 :: Davenport

Dearborn, MI – It was a bittersweet day for the Lady Wolves (9-11, 0-5) today as they took on #11 Davenport (18-3,5-0) and lost in a game that was close the whole time, falling in the end 72-61. But the score was much closer than that would indicated, as the Panthers would go the free throw line multiple times during the end of the game and extend their lead.

UMD would open the game and fall into an early hole and only 3 minutes in their luck just kept falling as Candace Cobb came down awkwardly on her ankle and had to be helped off the court. She would unfortunately not return for the Lady Wolves, shrinking their already short roster to just 7. But the Lady Wolves would fight back and with 7:39 Gina Marano would tie the game up at 23. The Lady Wolves would take the game into the half time hanging with the Panthers.

The second half started with much of the same, inspired play by the Lady Wolves, but Davenport would break through for a short period of time and take a 47-43 lead 6 minutes into the half, but only two minutes later the Lady Wolves would tie the game back up at 49. From there it seemed as if UMD was slowly becoming fatigued with the short bench. Davenport would go on a few short runs, countered by runs by UMD, but the counter-runs started to lose its momentum and ever so slowly the Lady Wolves would start to slip out of the game. With just a few minutes left it was time to try and foul to get back into the game, unfortunately the plan didn’t work this time and UMD would be left with another loss.

Overall, the Lady Wolves played an inspired game of basketball today and looked as if an upset and its first conference win could be within reach. The loss of Cobb early really hurt UMD, and they hope to have her back when they take the play Grace Bible College, Monday with tip off @ 5:00 PM.

January 14, 2008 :: Ohio State - Marion

Dearborn, MI – In a much needed victory, Coach Pinkowski and the Lady Wolves welcomed Ohio State – Marion to the Fieldhouse where they quickly and promptly dispatched the Crimson Wave, 85-17. Four Lady Wolves would go into double digits (Bridges – 20, Harris – 14, Roberts – 11, Acho – 10) and Candace Cobb would add ten assists for UMD. OSU – Marion would be lead by Beth Shields with 8 points.

The first half would start out very well for the Lady Wolves as they had plenty of chances to run their offense and execute a variety of defenses. UMD would shoot a blazing 46% in the first half compared to only 8% for the struggling Crimson Waves. The second half would bring much of the same, as both teams would increase their shooting percentages. The Lady Wolves would up theirs to 51% and OSU – Marion would shoot 15%. In a game that was over shortly after the tip-off, Coach Pinkowski was still barking out plays and instruction to her ladies all the way till the last minute, in what could only be an effort to keep her ladies minds on the task at hand, finishing strong.

Michigan – Dearborn (9-8, 0-3) will travel to Concordia University (7-10, 1-2) on Wednesday Jan. 16 th with tip-off scheduled for 7:30PM. The Lady Wolves hope that this game will be a nice leaping board towards their first conference win.

January 12, 2008 :: Madonna University

Dearborn, MI – In what was a huge game in the standings today, Michigan – Dearborn (8-8, 0-3) came up way short. The game was marred with questionable calls from the referees, and turnovers aplenty for the Lady Wolves, in which they would drop it by the final score of 76-63 to Madonna University Crusaders (7-10, 2-1). The game started very sloppy for the Lady Wolves as they fell down by 10 points early. Freshman guard Katie Roberts looked indecisive at times turning the ball over on 7 separate occasions, in what was arguably her biggest conference test yet in her young career. The Lady Wolves would finish with 19 total turnovers.

The second half would bring inspired play from the Lady Wolves coming out of the Locker room, as they would charge and take the lead early in the half 49-48, but Madonna would prove to be too tough and go on a 21-3 run closing out any hope of victory for the Lady Wolves. Questionable calls by the officials filled the second half forcing both Chanel Bridges and Katie Roberts to leave the game with 5 fouls. The Lady Wolves would fail to capitalize on their free throws in the second half going only 46%. Leading the Lady Wolves in scoring was Kandice Perryman with 18 and Nicole MacLeod with 16. Coach Pinkowski and the Lady Wolves look to turn it around as they will play host to Ohio State – Marion (2-12, ---) on Monday night with tip off scheduled for 7:30.

January 9, 2008 :: Cornerstone University

Dearborn, MI -The Lady Wolves haven’t gotten off to the start coach Pinkowski would have liked for Conference play. UMD would fall to Cornerstone University 77-61 tonight in what was a close game at the half but would see the Lady Wolves lose control in the second half. Freshman Katie Roberts would lead UMD with 19 points and 6 assists. Nicole MacLeod would lead the team in rebounds with 8 and chip in 12 points of her own. With seniors Becky Morefield and Nikki Acho no longer a part of the team, the ladies now look to their other two seniors, Chanel Bridges and Kandace Perryman, for leadership.

It was poor shooting in the second half for UMD and the exact opposite for Cornerstone, as UMD would shoot a mere 31% in the second half compared to the 51% by Cornerstone, which would allow the Golden Eagles to outscore the Wolves by 15 and take the commanding win. The loss would drop UMD to 8-7 overall and most importantly 0-2 in the WHAC. The win would bump Cornerstone to 11-7 and 2-0 in the WHAC. The Lady Wolves are back in action again on Saturday when Michigan – Dearborn (8-7, 0-2) takes on rival Madonna (6-10, 1-1) at 1:00 PM in the Fieldhouse.

January 7, 2008 :: Kuyper College

Dearborn, MI – In what would be considered largely one last tune up before hitting the meat of conference play, the Lady Wolves were able to work out some kinks early in the game and cruise to an easy victory over the Cougars from Kuyper College, 76-22. After playing relatively close in the first few minutes, the Lady Cougars would begin to fade away as UMD would turn up the offense. Candance Cobb would distribute the ball well all night with 14 assists and Chanel Bridges would light up the scoreboard for 24 of the Wolves 76 points on the night.

The second half would see the Lady Wolves hold Kuyper to just 9 points, most of which were scored in the last few minutes of the game. The defense was solid for UMD and the night couldn’t have gone better, in what had to be a great tune up match for Coach Pinkoswki and her ladies.

UMD returns to conference play on Wednesday at home against Cornerstone University. Tip-off is at 5:30 PM in the Fieldhouse.

January 5, 2008 :: Siena Heights University

Dearborn, MI - The women lost a close game in their first conference match up of the season vs. Siena Heights at home Saturday night (77-81). Senior Chanel Bridges had a outstanding game, racking up a total of 22 points for the evening. Four other ladies also scored in the double digits; senior Kandice Perryman (12 pts), freshman Katie Roberts (10 pts) and freshman Candace Cobb (14 pts). The Wolves next face the cougars from Kuyper College on Monday, January 7 at 5:00pm in the Fieldhouse.
