3/27/07: Four recruits joining the Women's Basketball squad this coming fall recieved recognition from The Michigan Journal today. To view their story click here.

2/21/07: The women's basketball team concluded their season last night at Davenport University with the overall record of 7-22 and 1-13 in the WHAC. Junior Becky Morefield led the Conference with 98 steals for the season and was the team leader in assists with 124. Other team leaders for this season were freshman Nicole Macleod with 46 blocks, sophomore Mary Zimnicki with 196 total rebounds and sophomore Chelsea Acho leading the squad with an average 15 points per game. 2/19/07: Several of the lady wolves received all WHAC honors today. Junior Nicolette Acho was named to the Academic All-Conference Team while sister Chelsea Acho was named to Third-Team All-WHAC as well as the WHAC Champions of Character Team. Congratulations ladies for all of your hard work.

2/1/07: Thursday night the Lady Wolves defeated Grace Bible College 66 to 59. Freshman Chanel Bridges had a big game scoring 21 points with teammates Chelsea Acho and Becky Morefield also scoring in the double digits. Morefield, ranked #3 in the NAIA for steals, added 6 more to her record and Sophomore Lennea Harris had 7 rebounds for the night.

1/24/07: The Wolves (1-6 in the WHAC, 4-14 overall) lost at home Wednesday night to the Indiana Tech Warriors, 72-61. The Warriors took a 12 point lead into halftime and the Wolves made a comeback in the second that fell just short. Michigan-Dearborn was able to pull with 7 points late in the game, but the Warriors were too tough. Junior Becky Morefield and Sophomore Chelsea Acho led the Wolves with 14 points. The Wolves next play Saturday at Aquinas College at 1:00pm.

1/22/07: The Women's Basketball Team (1-5 in the WHAC, 4-13 overall) beat Rochester College 63 to 54 Monday night.  Four of the Lady Wolves scored in the double digits- freshman Nicole Macleod with 10 points and sophomores Chelsea Acho, Jamie Buda and Chanel Bridges with 12 points a piece.  Sophomore Mary Zimnicki lead the squad in rebounds closing the game with 10 and junior Becky Morfield right behind her with 9 rebounds. The team will next face Indiana Tech in the hope of gaining ground in the WHAC with another win.

1/18/07: The Lady Wolves have signed two new recruits for the 2007-2008 season! UM-D is proud to welcome Katie Roberts of Trenton High School and Candice Cobb of Mott High School. Both were standout athletes throughout their high school careers and recieved many honors for their hard work. Roberts averaged 15 points per game, set the school record for steals at 238, was named All-Metro West for both the Detroit Free Press and News as well as making the Fress Press All State Squad - 6th team. Cobb averaged an equally impressive 15.5 points, 4 assists and 3 steals per game which earned her All-Macomb Area Conference Gold honors. Welcome to the team ladies!

1/17/07: Wednesday night the Wolves Women's Basketball Team defeated Concordia University 60-58 at the Field House.  The Wolves (1-4 in the WHAC, 3-12 overall) took an eight point lead into halftime.  The Cardinals (1-4 in the WHAC, 4-15 overall) however, would not go down easily.  Cutting the lead to three late, the Wolves missed some critical free throws and allowed Concordia the chance to tie the game.  A late three point basket tied the score at 58.  With 1.7 seconds remaining, Sophomore Chelsea Acho's shot was off the mark but she was fouled.  Acho calmly sank both free throws giving the Wolves a 60-58 victory, their first conference win of the season.  Chelsea Acho finished the game with 23 points and 9 rebounds.  Junior Becky Morefield added 11 points 8 rebounds and 4 assists.  The Wolves had a 42-38 rebounding edge helped by Junior Lynnea Harris' 11 rebounds.  The Wolves next travel to Grand Rapids to take on Davenport University.

12/12/06: UMD's women's basketball narrowly lost to Marygrove College this past Monday, 66-68. Sophomore Chelsea Acho, ranked first in the WHAC and seventh in Division II in scoring, led the Wolves in both scoring, with 36 points, and rebounds, with ten. Junior Becky Morefield, ranked first in the WHAC and second in Division II in steals and assists, added six points, seven rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in the loss.

11/29/06: The women's basketball team defeated Andrews University 96-31 Wednesday night at the Field House. Sophomore Chelsea Acho had a career high 26 points on 11 of 14 shooting from the field. Sophomore Chanel Bridges had 13 points, while sophomore Jamie Buda and junior Tammy Russell each had 11 points. The Wolves held the Cardinals to 18.5% shooting from the field in the first half. UMD on the other hand shot 45% from the field for the game. The Wolves improved their record to 2-6. The women next play December 9 and Spring Arbor University at 1:00pm.

11/18/06: The lady Wolves led for most of the game Saturday afternoon but late in the second half the Bulldogs from Ohio closed in and tied the score at 64-64 to force overtime. After a heart-pounding five minutes the women lost their home opening game to Wilberforce University 75-77.
