Volleyball Team Facts
The Volleyball Program has just completed it’s 27th year.
In 2007 the program achieved it’s 600th victory.
Throughout its 27 year history they have had the same head coach - Mike Gibson.
They compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics – Region VIII.
For the first sixteen years, they competed as an Independent.
In 1999, the University joined the Northeast Atlantic Conference.
The Volleyball team won the Conference Championship in 1999.
In 2001, the University reverted to Independent status as the Conference disbanded.
In 2004, the University became an associate member of the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference with Aquinas, Concordia, Cornerstone, Davenport, Indiana Tech, Madonna, and Siena Heights. In the first three years in the WHAC the team finished third.
The team has qualified for post-season playoffs 22 times in their 24 year history.
The program has produced five N.A.I.A. All Americans.
The program has also produced thirteen N.A.I.A. Academic All Americans since 1994.
The team uses the Operation Adventure team-building program at the University as part of their road to success each year.
The team also uses an extensive strength training and jump training program under the direction of Al Edwards - our strength and conditioning coach. The program has been greatly enhanced by the opening of our Wellness Center in January, 2000.
The current staff of coaches for the volleyball program combine 68 years of coaching experience at the University.
The 2007 team finished 2nd in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference and once again qualified for the Conference Tournament with a won-loss record of 26-20. The team consisted of 2 Freshmen, 4 Sophomores, 2 Juniors, and 3 Seniors. |
