November 15, 2008 :: WHAC Awards

Fort Wayne, IN - The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Volleyball awards were announced Saturday at the conference championships. The Wolves Senior setter Kelly Dankert was named to the Champions of Character Team as well as the All-Academic Team. The All-Academic Team requirements were a junior or senior standing and 3.25 GPA. The Champions of Character Team members were chosen based on the five core character values of Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Servant Leadership and Sportsmanship. Kelly has done tremendous work inside the classroom as well as outside the classroom with her work for the Red Cross. Congratulations Kelly!

 
November 11, 2008 :: Aquinas College

Grand Rapids, MI - The Wolves volleyball season came to an end Tuesday night as the Aquinas Saints defeated Michigan-Dearborn 3-1 in the WHAC Quarterfinals. The Wolves dropped the first two sets 25-15 and 25-13 before taking the third set 25-20. In the fourth set, the Wolves fought hard, but in the end the Saints were too much for UMD as Aquinas won the set 25-23. The Wolves were led by Sophomore Courtney Provencer (Garden City, MI) who had 12 kills and Junior Krissy Ciaramitaro (New Baltimore, MI) who added 10 kills. The Wolves will graduate two players, Jaclynn Ronald (Sterling Heights, MI) and Kelly Dankert (Dearborn, MI). Michigan-Dearborn would like to thank Jax and Kelly for their contributions on and off the court over the last 4 years!

 
November, 2008 :: WHAC Tournament

Grand Rapids, MI - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament begins Tuesday night, November 11, with quarterfinal matches. The sixth-seeded Wolves travel to Grand Rapids to take on the third-seeded Aquinas Saints at 7:00pm. The winner of the match will take on second-seeded Madonna University Friday night at Indiana Tech.

Michigan - Dearborn (14-31/4-10) features Courtney Provencher who is averaging 2.87 kills per match during conference play. She is joined by defensive-minded Chelsea McCune who is third in the conference in digs per match at 4.30. Aquinas (21-12/10-4) is counting on Mollie Lounds' .320 hitting percentage to carry them to the semifinals. 

 
October 30, 2008 :: Concordia University

Dearborn, MI - The Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team avenged an earlier loss this season to Concordia University by sweeping the Cardinals Thursday night 3-0. The Wolves dominated the three sets winning 25-18, 25-16, and 25-17. Sophomore Courtney Provencher had 17 kills to lead the Wolves, while Junior Candace McPherson had 7 kills. The Wolves next travel to Huntington Indiana to play in a tournament on Saturday November 1, 2008.

 
October 24-25, 2008 :: Madonna University

Livonia, MI - The Wolves volleyball team went 1-3 over the weekend at the Crusdar Classic hosted by Madonna University. On Friday night, the Wolves dropped their match to Taylor University 3-0. Michigan-Dearborn would bounce right back by defeating Trinity International University 3-2. The Wolves dropped the first two sets by identical scores 25-22, then fought hard in the third set to win 29-27. The momentum continued as the Wolves won sets four and five 25-16 and 15-9. Junior Krissy Ciaramitaro and sophomore Mallori McGuckin led the way for the Wolves each having 17 kills in the match. On Saturday UMD lost to Berry College 3-2. The Wolves won set one 25-16, then dropped the next two sets before winning the fourth set 25-20. Unfortunately, Berry College had enough left in the tank to drop the Wolves in the fifth set 15-12. Ciaramitaro again led the way with 19 kills. In the final match of the tournament, Michigan-Dearborn lost to Walsh University 3-1. Ciaramitaro and Sophomore Courtney Provencher each had 11 kills. McGuckin was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Wolves will next host Aquinas College on Tuesday October 27th at 7:30pm at the Field House.

 
October 18, 2008 :: Cornerstone University

Dearborn, MI - The Wolves dropped a tough match against the 17th ranked and undefeated Indiana Tech Warriors 3-2. The Wolves came out strong in the first set holding on to win 25-23. The Warriors then controlled set two winning it handily 25-8. Indiana Tech then took the third set, but the Wolves outlasted the Warriors 26-24 in the fourth set. In the fifth and deciding set, Indiana Tech jumped out to 11-6 lead and rolled to a 15-8 win. The loss drops the Wolves WHAC record to 2-6. Michigan-Dearborn next takes on Madonna on Tuesday October 21 at Madonna. The match will begin at 7:00pm.

 
October 11, 2008 :: Clearwater Christian College

Clearwater, FL - The Wolves traveled to Florida over the weekend and promptly won the Christian Clearwater College Tournament. The Wolves went 4-0 without dropping one set. On Friday, the Wolves swept Point Park College and Providence University. Saturday was another day of sweeping as the volleyball team swept host Christian Clearwater College and Pensacola College in route to winning their first tournament of the season. The Wolves are back in Michigan now and will face conference foe Cornerstone University on Tuesday at 7:00pm in Grand Rapids.

 
October 7, 2008 :: Concordia University

Ann Arbor, MI - The Wolves volleyball team dropped a tight match against Concordia University Tuesday night 3-2. The Cardinals came out strong winning the first set 25-20. The Wolves answered by taking the second set 25-23. The teams would again trade sets three and four setting up the fifth and deciding set. Michigan-Dearborn held off two match points, before Concordia would finally get the victory 17-15 in the fifth set. Sophomore Courtney Provencher led the Wolves with 16 kills. The loss drops the Wolves WHAC record to 2-4. They will travel to Clearwater, Florida this weekend for a tournament beginning on Friday.

 
October 2, 2008 :: Aquinas College

Grand Rapids, MI - The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team lost to Aquinas College 3-1 on Thursday night. The Wolves fell behind early losing the first set 25-14 and set two 25-15. UMD then came back to win the third set 25-23. The Wolves had a late lead in the fourth set, but the Saints came back to win 26-24 to take the match 3-1. The loss drops the Wolves WHAC record 2-3. The Wolves will travel to Concordia on Tuesday, October 7th at 7:00pm to take on the Cardinals.
