11/29/06 -- Senior Libero Amy Rathsburg and junior setter Renee Laidler were named to the WHAC All-Conference First Team. Laidler was also named Setter of the Year for Region VIII in the NAIA. Senior outside hitter Lynnea Harris and junior outside hitter Jamie Wozniak were named to the second team. Wozniak also received the Champion of Character award. Head Coach Mike Gibson was named the Coach of Character for the 2006 season.
11/13/06 -- The 2006 UMD women's volleyball season has concluded. The #4 Lady Wolves lost in the Regional-qualifying round of the WHAC playoffs to #3 Indiana Tech.
11/08/06 -- After finishing fourth in the WHAC UMD hosted Siena Heights University this past Tuesday in the first round of the WHAC playoffs. The Lady Wolves easily dispatched with the Saints in three games: 30-20, 30-22, 30-27. Senior outside hitter Lynnea Harris led the way for the Wolves with 16 kills on 40 attempts with only two errors. Junior setter Renee Laidler contributed an additional nine kills along with 29 set assists and no setting errors. Senior libero Amy Rathsburg had 23 digs for Dearborn. The Wolves face the Crusaders at Madonna University this Friday in the semi-finals at 8:00 p.m.
10/23/06 -- The University of Michigan – Dearborn Lady Wolves hosted the Madonna University Crusaders Thursday night. The Wolves, coming off their third conference loss, started off hot in game one out-hitting the Crusaders and rode 19 kills with only 5 errors to win 30-26. After trading points back-and-forth Madonna pulled away with a lead and won game two 30-22. Dearborn answered back in game three with 20 kills and won by three, 30-27. The Crusaders cruised to an early 10-1 lead in game four, largely because of 13 hitting errors by the Wolves, and won 30-16.
Game five was back-and-forth with each team trading points until Madonna grabbed a two point lead 13-11; the Wolves fought back to within one before the Crusaders scored the final three points to win the game and the match 15-12. UMD dropped to 22-12 and retained its third spot in the WHAC. The Wolves were led by senior Lynnea Harris’s 22 kills on 54 attempts, junior Renee Laidler’s 45 set assists, and sophomore Kellyn Szajnecki’s 12 kills on 21 attempts.
10/16/06 -- The women's volleyball team travelled to Clearwater, FL this past weekend to participate in the Clearwater Christian College Tournament. On Friday the 13th Dearborn breezed through the first day of competition, dispatching with Milligan and Seton Hill Universities. The following day of competition UMD beat Multnomah College and Northwood University in two three-game matches before advancing to the championship match against host Clearwater Christian. The Lady Wolves got off to a hot start winning game one 30-22, but dropped game two by two points before winning games three and four. Dearborn took home a first-place finish along with All-Tournament honors for Lynnea Harris, Renee Laidler, and Amy Rathsburg.
10/2/06 -- The Lady Wolves participated in Taylor University's Annual Volleyball Tournament. On Friday Dearborn first faced the host team and lost three games to none. After taking an hour break to recuperate, UMD took on Indiana Wesleyan University. After losing the first game by five points, UMD fought back and won game two by the same margin as game one. Game three told a different tale as Wesleyan dominated and produced a 30-11 win. Dearbron rallied to win game four by two points and finished off Wesleyan in game five by a score of 15-12. The following day Dearborn got a quick win over Davenport in three games before facing St. Francis University. UMD had lost to SFU earlier in September in five games, but would not be undone this time as the Lady Wolves easily dispatched with their opponents in three games.
9/28/06 -- UMD hosted Cornerstone University Thursday night. After winning the first game 30-28, Dearborn dropped the next two games 23-30 and 15-30, before coming from behind in game four to win 33-31. In game five the Lady Wolves got off to a quick 7-3 start before the Golden Eagles closed the gap and eventually beat UMD 13-15. Dearborn's record currently stands at 12-8 overall and 4-2 in the WHAC.
9/27/06 -- The battle of the WHAC unbeatens came to a close Tuesday night as Madonna University hosted the University of Michigan - Dearborn. After trading points with MU, UMD pulled away and won the first game 30-22, in near-perfect fashion. Madonna responded with three dominating games to win the match.
9/5/06 -- This past weekend the UMD Volleyball team played in its second tournament at Cedarville University. On Friday the Lady Wolves won their first two matches versus Bethel College and Grace College. On Saturday UMD was eliminated as it lost to the University of St. Francis three games to two in the qualifying match.
8/28/06 -- The Wolves Volleyball team finished third at the University of Michigan-Dearborn's Earlybird Tournament this past weekend. The Wolves defeated Rio Grande, OH three games to none and Georgetown (#13) in five games on Friday before suffering their only loss Saturday morning to Doane College. In the third place match the Wolves dispatched with Mount Vernon Nazarene three games to one. Setter Renee Laidler earned All-Tournament honors.
