| April 26th, 2009 :: Eastern Michigan University |
Ypsilanti, MI – The Wolves took the field against EMU for their final game of the 2009 season. Coming off a 4 game win streak the Wolves were looking to finish on a high note with playoff hopes out the window. However, this would be a difficult task with the flags flying all night. The typically disciplined Wolves team found themselves in the penalty box for 7 minutes and 30 seconds in the first half alone. The Eagles would capitalize on these opportunities dominating possession time and taking a 9-6 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the second quarter. The Wolves would manage to close the gap just before halftime as Sam Dismuke pushed the cage after a faceoff to net his first career goal to make a 9-7 game.
The second half saw a sway in calls as EMU found themselves in the box much like the Wolves in the first half. The Wolves would eventually tie the score at 9 midway through the third. However, EMU would score three unanswered goals to take a 12-9 lead into the final minutes of the game. As soon as the Wolves would answer, the Eagles would add one right back to maintain the lead. With 30 seconds left in the game the Wolves found themselves down 14-10. Freshman midfielder Scott Wisniewski would win back to back faceoffs and add two more goals to make the 14-12 final.
It was a hotly contested game all the way through. The Eagles just had a little too much firepower for the Wolves in the end. Scott Wisniewski was solid all around today controlling the faceoff X and adding 6g, 1a. Pat Downey (3g, 1a), Erik Scharboneau (2g, 1a), Sam Dismuke (1g), Mike Kluz (1a), and Andy Ober (1a) all contributed to the Wolves attack today.
This marks the final game for seniors Joel Rosen (Goalie), Brandon Trivax (Midfield), Jose Espinosa (Midfield), and Mike Prokic (LSM). We thank you for your hard work and dedication to making this a successful season and program. This also marks the most successful season in team history finishing with a record of 5-5. The Wolves Defense also maintained a GAA of 7.1 toping all previous seasons including last years lackluster 13.70 GAA. The young Wolves team appears to be headed in the right direction and will work hard to fight for that playoff spot next season. |
| April 19th, 2009 :: Albion College |
Beverly Hills, MI - The Wolves won their 4 th straight game today against non-MCLA team Albion College. Albion came ready to play and took a 2-0 lead by the start of the second quarter. Albion gave the Wolves trouble early on at the faceoff X and was solid in transition. The Wolves offense had plenty of opportunities today posting 59 shots. However, poor placement and solid goalie play on Albion’s behalf kept the game close throughout.
It was not until the 3 rd quarter the Wolves offense finally began to finish their shots, outscoring Albion 6-3. The Wolves offense once again worked as team with 7 different players contributing to the scoring and 5 goals coming off assists.
The Wolves defense played well during settled situations and gave Albion trouble down the stretch to seal the 9-7 win.
The Wolves will get ready for their final game of the season against Division 1 team Eastern Michigan on Sunday, April 26 th (6:00pm).
Thanks to Albion for making the trip out.

| April 18th, 2009 :: Aquinas College |
Grand Rapids, MI - The Wolves won their third straight game taking down the shorthanded Aquinas Saints this afternoon. Right off the bat the Wolves took back to back penalties allowing the Saints to take a 1-0 lead. However, the Wolves would score the next three taking a 3-1 lead into halftime. The Wolves offense would continue their first half efforts scoring 4 more in the third building their lead to 7-2. The Saints would get a few more late goals but it was not enough to take down the Wolves.
Aquinas’s goalie was outstanding in net this afternoon taking away countless scoring opportunities by the Wolves. Facing a tough goalie, the Wolves had to work hard for good opportunities and they did just that assisting on 7 of their 9 goals this afternoon. Freshman attackman Pat Downey (4g, 3a, 10GB’s) and midfielder Scott Wisniewski (3g, 2a, 8GB’s) were on top of their game today. The Wolves defense was also solid as usual holding the Saints to 6 goals.
The Wolves will rest up to take on Albion College tomorrow afternoon for their last home game of the season.
Thanks to the Saints for hosting and best of luck in your remaining games |
| April 11th, 2009 :: Saginaw Valley State University |
Saginaw, MI - The Wolves continued their performance from last week taking down Saginaw Valley 9-1 this afternoon. The Wolves defense once again did their part shutting out the Cardinals until the 3 minute mark in the 4th quarter. The Wolves have only allowed 3 goals in their last two games lowering their GAA to 6.3 through 7 games.
On the offensive side if the field, the Wolves offense once again did a god job of controlling the ball. However, forced shots and excellent goalie play by the Cardinals limited their scoring efforts. Freshman attackman Pat Downey (3g, 1a, 11GB’s) and Erik Scharboneau (3g, 2a) led the scoring for the Wolves. Andy Ober (Attack), Dale Lanstra (Midfield), and Mike Prokic (LSM) all added one goal a piece.

| April 4th, 2009 :: John Carroll University |
University Heights, OH - The Wolves put together a complete team effort to take down 24th ranked John Carroll University. Per usual, the Wolves defense was on top of their game completely shutting down the John Carroll attack. Sophomore defensemen Kyle Wilson did an excellent job of defending JCU’s top attackman #7 Josh Tatro. Goalie Joel Rosen did his part making 11 saves and only allowing 2 goals. Captain Matt Laurinec was a huge help on the clears, also adding one goal.
Previous games for the Wolves saw lopsided time of possession which took its toll on the Wolves defense. However, today would not be the case as the young Wolves offense finally began to work as a team possessing the ball and capitalizing on numerous opportunities. Freshman Pat Downey (4g) and Scott Wisniewski (14GB’s, 2g, 2a) led the way for the Wolves offense. Scott Wisniewski also did a solid job of tying up JCU’s faceoff man allowing Senior Mike Prokic (LSM) to come up big on the wing with 10 GB’s.
Also adding to the Wolves offense was Erik Scharboneau (1g), Andy Ober (1g), Jared Wegienka (1a), and Brandon Trivax (1a).
Thank you to John Carroll for having us. Best of luck the rest of the season. The Wolves will look forward to continue this performance as they take on Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, April 11th at 2:00pm. |
| March 28th, 2009 :: Hope College |

Beverly Hills, MI - Another tough game for the Wolves. Hope has a very talented attack line and it shows by the numbers they have been putting up lately. The Wolves defense was up to the task and did their part for much of the game. Goalie Joel Rosen was solid once again, making some great saves in the second half to prevent the score from getting out of hand.
The young Wolves offense had plenty of chances but unforced turnovers played costly late in this game. With an 8-5 game midway through the 3rd, the Dutchmen were able to control the ball down the stretch wearing out the Wolves defense adding 3 unanswered goals to take the 11-5 win.
Freshman attackman Pat Downey and Erik Sharboneau had solid performances each scoring 2g and 1 assist.
Hope goalies were both great in net, and their whole team are workhorses on ground balls. Always a pleasure to play Hope. Best of luck on the rest of the season.
The Wolves have a lot to work on this week in preparation for John Carroll on Saturday, April 4th.

| March 22nd, 2009 :: Oakland University |
Rochester, MI - The Wolves traveled to Notre Dame Prep High School for another tough conference match-up against the Oakland Grizzlies. Coming off a tough loss to Calvin a few nights before the Wolves were determined to get back on track.
Oakland was solid on the ride and controlled the ball for 75% of the game. However, the Wolves defense would once again be the story of the game as they frustrated the Oakland offense shutting them out for the first two quarters of play taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. Determined to get the W, the Wolves played excellent defense and capitalized on their few offensive possessions going up 3-1 as freshman Erik Scharboneau (1g, 2a) notched a goal late in the third quarter.
Costly penalties in the 4 th quarter opened the door for the Grizzlies as they were able to tie the game up at 3 a piece on successful conversions. Oakland would soon find the back of the net one more time with 5 minutes left in the game taking a 4-3 lead. With time running out, the Wolves defense had to lock down and double which eventually led to another Oakland goal with just 35 seconds remaining. However, freshman midfielder Scott Wisnieweski would step up again at the faceoff X to win the draw and score with just 16 seconds remaining to close the gap to one. On the pursuing faceoff, Wisniewski once again won the draw and the Wolves got off one more shot wide of the cage before time expired.
Another tough loss for the Wolves but a great game overall. Thanks to Oakland for hosting and best of luck the rest of the season. The Wolves will look forward to their next conference game against Hope College on 03/28. |
| March 18th, 2009 :: Calvin College |
Dearborn, MI - The Wolves took the field against the Calvin Knights in their first conference game of the season. The Wolves defense stood strong the first quarter shutting out the Knights while freshmen attackman Pat Downey netted two goals. The Knights fought back scoring 4 unanswered goals in a 5 minute span during the middle of the second quarter taking a 4-2 lead into halftime. Determined to get back into the game freshmen midfielder Scott Wisniewski scored back to back goals in a 10 second span tying the game 4-4 with 3 minutes to go in the third quarter. Costly Wolves penalties and key face-off wins by Calvin allowed them to dominate possession time and run away with game scoring 6 unanswered goals to take the 10-5 win. Calvin controlled the face-off battle and their goalie made some key saves late in the game. Much deserved win by Calvin.
The Wolves took a lot from this game and will regroup for another tough conference matchup against Oakland on Sunday 3/22. |

However, UWEC fought back scoring 3 unanswered goals to make for an exciting finish. Team defense and excellent goalie play by Joel Rosen won this game for the Wolves.
In their second game of the day the Wolves took on Northern Michigan University. Strong defense abd goalie play were once again the story in this game, holding the Wildcats to only 8 goals. NMU dominated possession time committing few mistakes and displaying lots of patience on offense. With the lopsided time of possession and unforced turnovers the Wolves could never get their offense in rhythm scoring only 3 goals on the day. The Wolves will begin preparation for their next game against Taylor University on March 14th. |
