Chromy Named an All-American for Third Time
Dearborn, MI - Senior Defenseman Matt Chromy was selected as a Third Team ACHA All-American for the second consecutive year. Chromy was a First-Team selection his sophomore year, making him the second UMD hockey player, (Jayme McKay was the first) to be named an ACHA All-American three times in a career. The Division 1 ACHA Awards committee made the selections and the information was relased at the annual ACHA meetings in Florida at the end of April. Chromy capped off an impressive career his senior year leading the Wolves with 15 goals and 31 assists. Chromy ended his career in style scoring the game winning goal in overtime to defeat Eastern Michigan. Next up for Chromy is tryouts with teams in the Central Hockey League.

Hubenschmidt inducted into ACHA Hall of Fame |
Dearborn, MI - Former UMD hockey player Jesse Hubenschmidt will be inducted into the ACHA Hall of Fame next month. Hubenschmidt will be a part of the first ever player class of the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame began last year with only general managers and other team and league officials being inducted. Hubenschmidt played at UMD from 1992-96. In his freshman year Hubenschmidt had 48 goals and 42 assists in 35 games. During that summer, he had shoulder surgery which prevented him from playing in his sophomore year until January. Still, he compiled 22 goals and 21 assists in 22 games. In his junior year, Hubenschmidt tallied 71 goals and 57 assists. That year he won the Bob Johnson Award for Outstanding Player in the ACHA, and he was a First Team All-American. His senior year saw him score 44 goals and have 66 assists. He was again a First Team All-American.
For his career, Hubenschmidt had 185 goals, 186 assists for 371 points in 136 games. He averaged 2.73 points per game in his career. His jersey, number 25, was retired on February 1, 1997. It is the only number to be retired at Michigan-Dearborn in any sport. |
