April 2, 2008 :: Madonna University

Dearborn, MI - The Lady Wolves have been waiting for this moment for a long time now. Yesterday they took the field at Home for the first time ever and did not disappoint in the first game. A decent sized crowd, considering it was a Wednesday Afternoon, was on hand for the first pitch to be thrown at Ford Woods Park by Stephanie Miller of Michigan - Dearborn.

Miller would strike out the first two Lady Crusaders of Madonna University (10-9-1, 1-1) and finish the side easily. The bottom of the first would see the Lady Wolves of Michigan - Dearborn (2-1, 2-1) ride emotion all the way to home plate. Taylor Janus, a transfer from the University of Minnesota, would come up big for her team drilling a ball into deep Left Field, a two-run shot and the first home run for the Lady Wolves at Ford Woods Park. Madonna would threaten the Michigan - Dearborn lead throughout the game but would only capitalize once in the top of the Third inning when the Crusaders would push across a single run. The rest of the game would see a multitude of strikeouts and good defense as the Lady Wolves would hang on to the 2-1 lead and give Stephanie Miller (1-1, S1) her first win of the year.

The Second game of the double-header would see the guests give a foul gift to their hosts. Madonna (11-9-1) would put up a run early in the 2nd Inning off Michigan - Dearborn (2-2, 2-2) pitcher Julie Glowiak, and it would be the first of many. After holding the Lady Crusaders down all day, they would eventually break out and go on a tear in the final three innings. Madonna would put up 5 more runs in the top of the 5th, taking a 6-0 lead. Glowiak would exit the game after the 6th inning giving way to Stephanie Miller who would enter in the 7th. She would fair no better on the scoreboard however as Madonna ran up 8 more runs in the top of the 7th. The Lady Wolves would get a single run in the bottom of the 8th of another Home Run by Taylor Janus. Julie Glowiak (1-1) would take the loss in the game.

The Lady Wolves will take the road Friday for an NCAA test as they face Hillsdale College with first pitch to be thrown at 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM. Michigan - Dearborn will than come home on Sunday for the Weekend Home Opener, come join us as they take on Concordia University (0-4, 0-2) at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM at Ford Woods Park. Also meet and greet the Detroit Demolition, 5 time IWFL Champions, between the games!
