Applying for Admission

The University of Michigan-Dearborn is among the most selective institutions in Michigan.  By completing the admissions application by the priority application deadline of December 15, you are automatically considered for scholarships.  Otherwise, applications are accepted until the first day of classes each semester.

Admission criteria include:

  • Academic performance in grades 10-12
  • ACT and/or SAT test scores
  • Class rank
  • Trend of grades and mix of academic courses

How to Apply as a Freshman

  1. Submit your Online Application.

  2. Send a check or money order for the $30 non-refundable application fee (unless you previously applied to the UM-Ann Arbor or UM-Flint).

  3. Fill out the High School Transcript Request Form and turn it in to your High School Counselor.  For an admission decision, it is necessary that your counselor provide a copy of your official high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores.

  4. School Codes

  5. If you attended any college/university classes while in high school (i.e. as a dual enrolled student), request that a copy of your official college/university transcripts be sent directly to the University.

  6. Send all materials to the Office of Admissions and Orientation

Applicants must graduate from an approved and/or accredited secondary school, home school or present a General Equivalency Diploma (GED).


After you have been admitted to the University, you will receive information about placement exams and orientation.

  • You are an F-1 visa student
  • You hold another temporary visa (such as F-2, H-4, B-1, B-2, L-1, L-2)
  • You hold refugee or asylum status
  • You are a permanent resident of the U.S.
  • You are a  U.S. citizen who is a non-native speaker of English
  • You are a U.S. citizen who has attended high school or college outside the U.S.
