Agenda
for Women: Goals
The Agenda for Women is part of a broad
effort to equalize opportunities and to foster an inclusive climate at
UMD for staff, faculty and students without regard to gender, sexual orientation,
race/ethnicity, social class, or other attributes. The University's
mission, as stated in UMD's 1990 Diversity Plan, is:
-
to increase diversity and achieve true pluralism.
-
to increase target group1
representation and participation in all areas of the University.
-
to assure the creation and maintenance of
a collegial and hospitable environment for all groups.
-
to increase opportunities for all groups
to become more knowledgeable, understanding and respectful of other groups.
-
to serve as a model and resource for the
achievement of pluralism in the wider society.
The recommendations in this document detail
concrete actions that go hand-in-hand with efforts such as affirmative
action plans, attempts to hire members of under-represented races/ethnicities,
and plans to educate our students for lives and careers in a diverse world.
