School of Education

The various academic programs of the University of Michigan-Dearborn's School of Education are routinely examined and approved by several entities, including the state of Michigan's Department of Education, the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC), and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  More on each of these follows.

The School of Education's activities related to Michigan teacher certification and endorsement are reviewed by the Michigan Department of Education. This means that the academic concentrations in teaching professional and content specialty areas have passed--and will continue to be subject to the ongoing approval of--the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). These required approvals qualify us to offer programs and make recommendations resulting in state-issued certification of teachers and in the state-issued endorsement of such certified teachers in any of a number of subject areas at the elementary and secondary level. Contact information for MDE is as follows:

On February 29, 2012, the School of Education's teacher education activities were accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) for a period of seven years, ending on February 28, 2019.  This accreditation certifies that our teacher preparation program meets TEAC's quality principles.  In addition, with this accreditation we are in compliance with the state expectation that, by December 31, 2013, all approved Michigan teacher preparation institutions are required to attain national accreditation through one of the two United States Department of Education-approved teacher preparation accrediting bodies--either the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) or the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).  Contact information for TEAC is as follows:
