Community Action Summit
This year the Civic Engagement Project hosted the 3rd Annual Community Action Summit. Representatives from five local non-profit organizations were invited to a speaking engagement and luncheon held on October 23 in the University Center. This year’s agencies included Alternatives for Girls, The Guidance Center, Habitat for Humanity, the Greening of Detroit, and the United Way of Southeast Michigan. Attendance for the event was very strong, with approximately 80 students and staff present. This is a reflection of growing student interest in civic engagement at UM Dearborn.
The audience was treated to a brief presentation by each of the five representatives followed by a lunch and meet-and-greet session. Several of the presenters noted their pleasure at the large turnout of students, and indicated their interest in working with the UM Dearborn faculty, staff, and students.
