Brooke Macey
ECEC Staff and Student
2009-Present
Major: Early Childhood Education
Minors: Science and Social Studies
Why did you choose to go into education?
Ever since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I have never wanted to do anything else with my life. I have always been told that I have great patience with children and that I know how to communicate with them. I love seeing how children grow and develop and I want to give children the opportunity to have a bright future.
What do you hope to do once you graduate?
When I graduate I would love to have my own Kindergarten classroom. I am hoping that by the time I graduate more jobs will open up so that I am able to get a Kindergarten teacher position. I am so thankful that I work at the ECEC because it has allowed me to gain so much experience in the teaching field. I will definitely bring all the knowledge that I have learned from this experience to my professional career.
Why did you choose to attend UM-Dearborn?
There were a few things that I was looking for in a college and UM-Dearborn was the best for me. I wanted to be close to home as well as get a great education. I had heard so many great things about UMD from my sister and fiance (who were already attending UMD) that I could not help but want to be part of the experience. When I heard about the small classroom sizes, I was sold. It has been the best decision I have ever made.
What would you say was the most beneficial thing you have learned while being at the ECEC?
The most beneficial thing that I have learned at the ECEC so far would have to be learning about myself as a teacher. I have learned about my strengths and weaknesses and have been able to shape myself into the teacher I want to be. The ECEC has given me the opportunity to find my niche as a teacher. I have learned so much about myself and gained the confidence I need to be a successful teacher.
What is your favorite aspect of the ECEC?
I would have to say that I love how warm and friendly the atmosphere is at the ECEC. Every time I walk into the ECEC I always feel welcome and I am never afraid to ask questions. Everyone here is supportive and they want nothing but the best for you.
How long have you been working at the ECEC?
In Fall 2008, I was first introduced to the ECEC when I had a Child Development Practicum. I was then hired in as staff after that in Winter 2009 and I have been working at the ECEC ever since. It has been two years so far that I have been working here and I love every minute of it.
What are some of your other interests?
I love spending time with my family and friends as well as my fiance, Mike. I love watching movies, playing board games and reading. Another interest that I have right now is planning my wedding!
