2007 Performance Appraisal

 June 6, 2007

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to personally thank all of you for the work and dedication I have witnessed over the past year toward achieving the mission of the University of Michigan-Dearborn.  I am pleased to initiate this year's performance appraisal process for all staff members.  In addition to providing staff with a formal assessment of their performance for the last year, the performance appraisal is an excellent opportunity to recognize individual staff successes and achievement as well as identifying areas for growth and development.  As we are approaching the end of the current fiscal year, it is now upon us that staff and supervisors begin planning for this important process.  Supervisors are responsible for conducting an appraisal of assigned staff members by completing a written Performance Appraisal Form and reviewing the information with the individual.

We are committed to helping our leaders further develop their ability to conduct performance reviews and recognize achievement.  Over the last 18 months, more than 75 leaders have completed training (as one of the components of our campusí Leadership Enhancement Series), which reinforced best practices for conducting reviews for staff members.  Additionally, our HR team will be providing refresher training for leaders who will be doing the upcoming reviews, as needed.  Staff members who have questions about the process and upcoming reviews are welcome to contact their immediate supervisor, senior leader or Human Resources Consultant.

The time period for supervisors to conduct the reviews is between July 1, 2007 and August 15, 2007.  Completed performance reviews are due to the HR office by Friday, August 24, 2007.   Annual developmental plans that are established for staff members should be consistent with departmental, unit and University goals and objectives.  Completed staff member annual plans for the upcoming year should be forwarded to Human Resources by September 14, 2007.

Sincerely,

Daniel Little
