New Student Convocation

April 14, 2008

Colleagues,

As summer approaches, we are already planning for the arrival of next fall's incoming class -- the University's 50th incoming fall class.  With that, plans are underway for our New Student Convocation in September.  This is an important occasion for us, our new students, and their parents.  It is also a time for us to come together as a community to welcome our incoming class.

The New Student Convocation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2008.  Details regarding specific program events and regalia ordering will follow shortly.

The tradition of welcoming our incoming class includes our new freshmen, transfer students, graduate students and all of their families.

Please accept this invitation to participate in this important event.  This is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the beginning of a new academic year together, and to demonstrate our strong commitment to our students.  We celebrate our shared academic values on this occasion, and these values in turn create part of the expectations that our students will have from their education at UM-Dearborn.

A good representation of faculty in academic regalia gives the Convocation much of its symbolic importance and feeling of ceremony; it expresses in visible fashion the centrality and importance of the faculty-student relationship in the education that we offer.  I hope you will join us.

Sincerely,

Daniel Little
